Quote: “Never explain yourself. Your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it.”
Every time I see this quote I can’t help but think about these two “friends” in school. I’m the type of person that if I do something stupid or feel embarrassed I have to explain myself. In the same way I also feel I must explain myself if people ask what’s on my mind, even if I don’t want to. Just by chance this always seems to happen to me in school.
This happened to me today. I was sitting in my chorus class and, as usual, my teacher had given everyone a few minutes to chat before the bell rang. I was in thought and jotting down a note quickly to my best friend who does not go to my school when my one friend asked me why I looked down and was writing so fast. I explained to him that I wasn’t exactly feeling the best because I had to do something after school that I didn’t want to do. Suddenly he turned to my other friend and felt the need to tell her everything that I had explained to him. Both of them started to laugh at me.
I felt so angry at him, but even more so I was angry at myself for telling him what was on my mind. I guess that I learned who my real friends are today. I also guess you could say that the quote is true. Next time I’ll just have to listen to my instincts and keep my mouth shut.
