I watched a worm crawl his way across the wet pavement
A shadowed figure smothered in the scent of fresh rain
Seeming lost and trying to find his way home
I wanted to help him
But I did not know where he belonged
So we came to an understanding
He went along his way
And I smelled the wet air,
Breathing in and exhaling my thoughts
Vaguely familiar but lost on this traveler
A silent understanding
In this morning that told stories of rain
And crawled away from my fingers
Retreating from the smoke
He went his way
And I went mine
With a comfortable understanding...
And the thick air from this young march morning leading me to bed...
Where home was waiting...
Where I felt I belonged...
And I closed my eyes with one lonely thought
A single hope
That he found his way
