You care about ending genocide in Darfur and preventing genocide from occurring elsewhere. But what can you do?


With more than 700 chapters at schools around the globe, STAND is the fastest-growing student anti-genocide coalition in the world today. STAND chapters actively organize to prevent and stop genocide wherever and whenever it may occur. In partnership with the Genocide Intervention Network, STAND's long-term goal is to establish a permanent anti-genocide constituency that holds elected officials accountable for doing all that they can to prevent and end genocide.

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->STAND, formerly known as "Students Taking Action Now: Darfur," formed in 2004 in response to the atrocities taking place in Darfur (for more on STAND's history, click here). Currently, STAND's campaigns focus primarily on ending the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan. In addition, we actively encourage members to learn about other conflicts and the larger anti-genocide movement.

STAND provides students with creative and effective national campaigns, organizing materials and resources, educational information, policy and advocacy training, and a network of informed and active peers. All STAND's programs and policies are consistent with the Responsibility to Protect Report, endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005.

Each new STAND chapter is formed independently by students at their respective school. STAND chapters raise awareness on their campuses and in their communities, advocate to their elected officials for substantial legislative action, divest their schools, cities and states, and fundraise for civilian protection. All of STAND's national campaigns and resources are developed, implemented and distributed entirely by a Student Leadership Team made up of students around the country.

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->STAND's Leadership Team is headed by Student Director Scott Warren (Brown University '09) and a Managing Committee of 12 student leaders from schools across America. The STAND Managing Committee provides the student movement with creative programs, advocacy and media strategies and a vast array of organizing and outreach materials.

STAND's Outreach Team, comprised of both Regional and State Coordinators, is made up of more than 20 dedicated high school and college students around the country. STAND Outreach Coordinators work to coordinate, unify, and empower STAND chapters by providing strategic guidance and resources.

STAND also has an international division, with chapters in more than 25 countries, including England, China, Canada, Sierra Leone, Singapore, and Israel.

STAND is the student division of the Genocide Intervention Network.
