I packed my few belongs quickly and walked out of the Renault castle the same night Sarah was taken. Their words meant nothing to me as they yelled and hollered for me to listen to their orders and not to pursue their daughter because they someone "better" than me for the job. A few guards who had understood everything I did for Sarah didn't try to stop me from going, they merely gave me a bit of gold and food, then with a small nod let me on my way and stopped anyone from coming after me. I thanked them from the bottom of my heart, but they and I both knew I wasn't returning to them after I came back with Sarah.
I started from the smells in the castle as I left and soon caught their trail. As I came closer to where the Sarah's scent was, the same types of assassins and other thugs that I had fought in the castle started attacking me as I went. I found I had very few hours to sleep and soon started to only half sleep, and using my energy, I laid out a sensitive aura to wake me if anyone or thing came into a certain distance. From this I picked up my light sleeping habits and my immediate grabbing of my sword, unsheathing it and slaying whom ever was near if I was awoke. During the day I hunted the lesser demons, and even found some of the assassins that hunted me to have a mild flavor if cooked right. This is what I lived on, and the demonic nature I had slowly started to come out more fuller than it ever had because of the fresh meat and blood...
Soon the place she was held came into view, it was indeed a castle and a thousand acres of land beyond the mountains to the west, but the land was barren, a complete wasteland... The amount of destruction that had fallen the trees and animals turned my stomach and made my blood boil. Bodies of these felled creatures and humans alike lay dead and rotting in the blazing sun, their flesh and muscle gone, already picked and eaten by vultures. They soon started circling over me as an omen of bad fortune or something along those lines, I had never been an omen or superstitious type of person, and so it didn't bother me at all. Slowly I made my way through the fields of stumps and corpses and finally arrived at the front gate.
Something had been knocking at the back of my mind since I left, but I couldn't put a finger on what it was. Something that had been at the Renault's castle was following me, or had it been here the whole time. That aura that had kept bothering me during my night shift was here, in these walls. It wasn't human; it was a demon, and a strong one. But I knew it from somewhere... Whatever it was I'd meet it soon enough, I just hoped the 5 days it took for me to get there didn't leave them enough time to do anything to Sarah. She had taken care of me when I was nearly dead, if I let her die I wouldn't be able to live with myself...
