~Prologue~
~Searching~
Sea water drenched the ship's stern and sides as it pushed through the rough ocean. A teenage girl, wearing a midnight black pirate hat bearing the trademark pirate skull, stood by the foremast, being lightly sprinkled by the water. She had a plain face; her only identifying feature was the necklace she bore around her neck, its red crystal shimmering in the light. She turned her head slightly to see the ship's crew pulling ropes; lugging heavy crates from one end of the ship to the other; yelling at one another to do a job; everything to keep the ship on course. She turned her head back and faced the open sea, wondering when they would arrive. They were so close...
“Robin?"
She became rigid at the sound of the voice belonging to Mr. Lane, who was standing on the main deck. She recovered quickly and turned to face him, with a sneer on her face.
“I thought I had told ye before," her eyebrows narrowed, "The crew calls me captain, or ye'll be kissing the gunner's daughter."
She casually walked to him and leaned into his face. "And ye don't want that, now do ye?"
She saw a tiny spark of fear in his eyes, which was unusual for him. "N-no, sir, I mean ma'am, I mean captain."
Something relevant to a smile crossed her face for a moment. "Good." She walked back to the foremast. "How much longer till we reach land?"
“There be at least thirty miles to go. We might not reach there by the time the sun sets."
“Not if the captain says otherwise. Tell the crew I want to be there before then." She turned, "Now."
He jumped a bit, "Aye, captain!" He scurried off to the busy crew. "Smartly, men! We get there before sunset, or it could mean dancin' with Jack Ketch for all of us!"
They moved like bullets at the mention of the hangman, and the ship pushed harder and faster through the seas towards land. The captain smiled. They would be there soon. She knew it. This was turning out to be easier than she thought.
