Chapter Twenty Seven~ Corellion's Truth |

It was hot. It felt like the entire room was one massive fire place.
I groaned as I struggled to get away from the heat.
Then sound filtered into my mind. It sounded familiar... maybe.
"-our fault!"
"What?!"
I forced open my eyes, blinking away the heavy sleep that was constantly assailing me.
"You fool! Did you honestly think that reviving Rhyns was like reviving an infinite!?"
What? Why are they talking about me? Have I died?
"Oh don't give me that look, I avenged his death."
"You are the one that lured him to his death!"
What!? I died!? When did that happen!?
My eyes suddenly cleared and every inch of my body snapped to life. I rolled to my stomach to get a better look the scene.
Anako stood beside the edge of the bed, Hyiru at his feet crumpled up like a rag doll. Anako looked so angry, his gaze could tear souls from their bodies! And across from him, that angel that looks so much like Anako. He too was upset but his gaze was more incredulous and displeased than twisted hatred.
"Am I always your scapegoat for your short comings?" Lariel huffed, rolling his eyes.
Anako held out his hand and turned to so his palm was open and faced upwards. Inside was nestled a dimly glowing marble.
Lariel's eyes widen for the briefest moment. He smiled wickedly and held out his hands.
"I guess that fell out when I was slicing up that brute." He laughed.
"No, you never loss a star unless you wish it. You drew Rhyns to his death." Anako accused, his voice trembling with rage.
"He is only a finite! You deserve better! I deserve better!" He shouted back, pressing a hand to his chest and waving his other hand wildly. 'How do you think this makes me look? My brother in exile on some forsaken planet full of finites!?"
"You only care about your self, don't you brother?" Anako sneered, his eyes focusing their death-inducing gaze on the blond.
"Ha! And that is why when Corellion called out to me I came?" Lariel snipped, glaring down at Anako.
"You were following me! You were waiting for the moment I'd mess up! You wanted to see me die at your hands!" Anako roared, fling his fists down, the star bouncing against the floor and rolling to a stop between the two.
They both adverted their gazes to the star.
".... I... I had no idea that would happen." Lariel said softly.
"I'll bet." Anako sneered; his image seemed to waver slightly, like a desert mirage.
"It is the truth!" Lariel defended. "I only knew it would help you! You are as much a part of me as I am you!"
"We are nothing alike, merely bonds of blood connect us." Anako said stiffly, crossing his arms over his chest.
"They why would I have bothered to follow Corellion? So I could the abject horror that was sweet upon your face when that finite pulled back from the their plane? Oh yes, that was sweet, a sight I'll never forget." Lariel smiled pleasantly, his eyes rolled up as he considered the ancient memory.
Anako's venomous growl stole the smile from his lips. Lariel withdrew a step, his arms coming out before himself, bracing himself.
"I gave you that star to help you! I didn't know its side effect!" Lariel exclaimed, the panic in his voice sincere.
"You may not have know that but I'm certain you knew how it would... 'help' me." Anako growled lowly, his accusing glare never wavering.
"B-brother!" Lariel stammered, trying to convey his helplessness with his hands. "I could not let you die there!" He said, motioning to his chest.
"We are not to interfere, remember?" Anako said, now sounding bored, "You don't interfere with me and I don't interfere with you." His eyes flashed over Lariel, sending a shudder up the angel's back.
"Anako!" He plead, coming forward a step.
Anako stepped forward and scooped up the star.
"Perhaps you should get a taste of your medicine." Anako hissed, holding the marble between his thumb and forefinger.
"No! Please Anako! Don't do this!" Lariel shouted, then suddenly his eyes flashed over me. But just as suddenly they flashed back over to Anako. "Please!" He said lowly.
"And I should heed your please because...?" He asked airily, rolling the marble in his fingers.
"Because you might scare Rhyns." Lariel said sinisterly, his panic hidden by him thinking he had gained the upper hand.
Anako swiveled around me, his eyes wide.
"Rhyns!" He whispered hoarsely.
He slowly extended his arm out, palm slowly twisting down. That’s when I noticed his other hand curling into a tight fist and the glowing marble slide down in between his fore and middle fingers. His eyes panned back to Lariel just as he whipped around.
However it seemed as if time had slowed during that brief episode.
His cloak flew out, hanging in the air as Lariel made an attempt to scream out. His foot was barely an inch off the ground as he tried to jump back when Anako was suddenly behind him.
The after image before me stretched across the room, still frames of captured motion slowly playing forward to catch up with the black being.
But just as suddenly as they appeared they fell away. Anako’s iron grip descended upon his brother, one hand flying over his mouth and the other wrapping around his waist, pinning his immobile arms to his side.
They hung there, Lariel frozen in fear. His pupils even more dilated and shivering, white visible around every edge. His body was ridge and stiff, his legs pressed together so tightly that even his toes were touching.
Anako made no moves but ever so slowly his pitch-black hair flowed down from his shoulder, cascading over Lariel.
Anako bent over, whispering in Lariel’s ear. As he spoke the inaudible words his dark cloak spilled over, further hiding away the angel. Even as Anako’s mouth stopped moving the cloak stretched and billowed until it completely covered Lariel. Only his single eye and blond eyebrow were visible.
Anako murmured something again and a black spiraling hole spread forth. It’s gapping maw drawing the siblings up into it.
Lariel shot me one last pleading look while Anako accompanied it with a dead, emotionless stare. They fell back into the darkness and it folded up, vanishing once more.
