Final chappy of fanfic. dundundun.

Chapter 5

Uriel stared. Pain stabbed into him again, his head rang as it lanced through his skull. He forced open an eye, shaking. It wasn't his own pain, but he was more acutely aware of it because of this. It was the Nephil's.

Verchiel stood over the boy, flaming sword buried into the bare shoulder, the flame already lapping over the skin. Small sounds of agony were drawn from the half-breed as the Power drew the blade toward his center.

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!" The black winged one's roar made the leader turn his head toward him as he threw his restrainers off, only to the held back again. He pulled the sword from the teen, pointing it at the other Angel. It was a sickly crimson of human blood.

"Why?"

"What?"

"Why? Why?! Why do you care for that ABOMINATION?!" Uri looked passed Verchiel, watching Alex, who was standing slowly, blood running from his shoulder down his shirt. He shuddered as the dull ache and unsteadiness flowed into himself. His love...injured...bleeding...

Verchiel glowered, baring his teeth, as if sensing where the other Power's gaze lay. "Nathaniel." An arrow's keen next to his ear showed the shaft stuck in the downed half-Angel's leg. Alex gritted his teeth, clutching at it.

Bleeding black Angel blood.

He panted, dragged it out in a spurt and flow of dark liquid. His eyes bored into the other's. Verchiel turned to him, blocking the lad's view of the Angel.

"I'll end your cursed life for you."

"NO! NO!" Uriel thrashed against his captors. Save him! Save him! his mind and heart screamed. A thud halted his efforts. His eyes dulled. "No... No..." Alex stared at him, tugging at the holy weapon. He shuddered as he drew it out. Red-black lifeblood poured from him.

"Uri..." His breath came in left in gasps, chest laboring furiously, as if he could barely contain one breath that he needed another. He stumbled forward. Uriel shuddered. It couldn't be happening. "Uri..." The boy shuddered and fell. The Power caught him numbly, legs buckling.

Bloody gurgles rose from the boy's mouth. "Uri...Uri...Uri..." He swallowed forcefully, struggling to form the words.

"No. No. Hold on. Hold on. Please, please. I need you. Don't leave me! Alex, don't leave me!" Dying...his little one...dying... Alex looked at him, tears filming his eyes. He didn't want to die. He was afraid...it was getting cold...

"Uri...Uri..." He wanted to stay with him. He wanted so much...too much... His heart to keep beating... He froze, staring. A smile fluttered onto his face, eyes beginning to close. "Butterfly..."

"Alex?" Uriel shook him. "Alex?!" He shook the still form harder. "Alex! Alex! Please, God, no! Wake up! GET UP! ALEX! ALEX!" He gripped the body tightly, screaming.

A bell that hadn't tolled for years sounded over the town the Powers had made their base in, shaking the forgotten church to its foundations and moving them off center. Dead. Dead. His heart. His soul was dead. Ruby colored tears fell onto the moonlight pale skin.

"Please, little Alex, please, wait for me." The Angel kissed the human's head gently, running his fingers through the brown-black hair. "I'll not leave you. I promise." He shuddered, lying with the Nephil pulled against his chest. A child. Only a child.

A glance told him the Redeemer had arrived. He closed his eyes against the son of the light-bringer and the former Power leader, Camael.

"Uriel?"

"Leave me be, Camael." The Redeemer stepped forward toward the boy, kneeling to touch him.

"Don't!" The snarl made him flinch back. Uriel gripped the young Nephil tightly. The one before him was older, had become an adult no doubt. He looked it. He kissed the small forehead tenderly, closing his eyes. He didn't need Aaron Corbet's touch to return him to Heaven.

He'd follow the young Nephil who'd brought him redemption.
