Chapter 4
He couldn't sleep. Try as he might, he couldn't sleep. Sweat made his clothes stick to his skin. He rolled over again. Try. Try. Fail. Try again. Had the chair turned? Could've sworn it had... There they were again. Red. Red and blue. Red-violet. Red pushed by blue. Anger. Anger. Fear. Pain.
The boy jolted upright, gasping. The sweat chilled almost instantaneously in the frigid air. He shuddered, hugging himself. Just a dream, he told himself, forcing a swallow. Just a dream... Oh, God... He shook his head.
The feeling crashed over him like a moonlit wave against a sandy beach. He was scooped up in a gentle cradle, embraced lovingly in downy folds that somehow alternated between an almost stifling warmth and chill that became a welcome equilibrium. Every blink cast an aurora over the darkness.
"Do you want to talk about it?" A question so pressing in its openess. He spoke, briefly, not wishing to relive for long whatever he'd seen. It replayed constantly enough in his mind. Silk cupped his face, velvet brushed his lips. Long strands tickled his face and neck as they fell around him in an ebony cascade.
Foreheads pressed together, eyes mingled. Hands twined.
"I could banish the memory for you."
"You'd do that?"
"Do you truly wish to forget?"
"...No."
"Good." He kissed the boy's forehead, drawing him close once more. A slight flush came and went across the Nephil's face as he remembered his own suggestion of the experiment. The Power chuckled softly, playing with the loose curls hanging haphazardly about the pallid face. Bright eyes watched him, and for an instant he saw the sideways bobs a serpent might make eyeing the movements of its prey.
He brushed it away, tickling the child. His child, his love, the one who held his heart.
The couple twined themselves as they began to sleep, instinctively, so that an onlooker would have been in doubt where Angel began and human ended. It wasn't truly sleep for either, though. Merely resting their bodies. Minds wandered, souls drifted to their place.

"Uri?" Alex gazed about the field. He smiled. The sun reigned the sky. It never seemed to set in this place. Flowers of every color and type strewned the field, a few trees standing sentinels over them, casting inviting pools of shade. A small river wound its way off into the distance, where his sight barely caught a view of a chain of mountains.
"Yes." The next few instances were flashes of reds, yellows, pinks, blue, and green as they tumbled down the hill, laughing, smiling. Petals strewn dark locks as they slowed to a halt, panting their collective joy. No longer embarassed at being naked as the day he was born, the teen lounged idly beneath his friend, who settled atop him, careful not to put his full weight on the delicate frame.
"Your hair's growing." The man smiled softly, letting his fingers glide through the flame-tinged hair, planting a small pink tulip behind the fifteen-year-old's ear. Feeling the flower slowly, a smile coaxed widely onto the still features.
"Yeah, I guess yours is too." Alex bumped his head under the Angel's chin. "Hard to tell though, it's so long already." He secreted a deep ruby rose into his companion's locks. Uriel smirked, fingertips brushing the dew-sprinkled petals softly before tracing the same pattern on the other's skin.
He froze. A shudder ripped through his body.
A scream cut through the air.
Darkness fell over the valley as the sun went out.
