I'm filled with ideas. To the brim. Well, maybe not totally but damn, other than worries swimming through my head, ideas fill up the rest.
There's the one idea that came to actual fruition and unfortunately fizzled out this past year and a half, I would guess. Society of Superheroes which I'm admittedly proud and disappointed of. Proud that it actually got posted up and has lasted this long and disappointed that nothing else that was planned saw anything come out of it, and believe me there was a lot planned for SoS, heh. It's what the guild was created for. Unfortunately, my inability to really push my ideas forward halted everything and I'm assuming made the others lose a lot of interest in it as well. I actually sorta feel bad ignoring the few people who've privately messaged me about joining the guild. And even worse, not telling the people who actually know what SoS is in AT that regularly visit the thread that the guild exists for their use xd
I also had an idea of a webcomic way back when revolving around four friends just graduating out of highschool going their separate ways but trying to find out other ways to just stick together. One friend was trying to get into the comic business independently but just couldn't make it 'cuz they were so heavily into the nightlife, having fun and partying. While the other friends did recognize his talents, they also recognized his lifestyle and his procrastinating personality often leading to them heckling the guy about his dreams of being a comic book artist. The two other friends were to go to college together, I hadn't fleshed out what they were going there for but they had their plans set out for them. Get through college while maintaining their friendship with each other, the other two friends and any new ones they would meet along their journey through the college life. The last friend, well, he was either foresighted or hindsighted, I always confuse the two. Despite having three best friends he was always seeking companionship, afraid to be alone with the idea that one day those three friends that's stuck with him all throughout highschool would eventually move on and forget about the friendship they all shared those five years together. And what was it that would keep them tight after graduating, you may ask? Settlers of Cattan, of course. What better way is there to keep a close friendship together other than some sort of strategic tabletop board game? Not the typical webcomic format that's readily available to so many people on the net of cynical gamers critiquing the games of past, present and future but of young adults finding ways to keep their highschool days alive. Unfortunately, it almost seemed like life was imitating art 'cuz the four friends did end up losing contact with one another in a sort of domino effect when one of them just stopped making an effort to stay friends, for no apparent reason, the others just ended up following.
There was actually another idea that my co-creator and I had for that story where two of the friends, the "foresighted/hindsighted loner" and one of the friends going to college, were real heavy into MMORPGs which would have led into spin off, or maybe just a sidestory within the main comic, of their MMORPG avatars. Without any coordination other than knowing what game they wanted to play they started off on opposite sides of the world. One being an Elf and one being an Orc with their first adventure in the virtual world would be to meet up. During their separate journey they would have had the unfortunate pleasure of running into the game's most infamous grief'ing PKer. As to how the PKer would be able to travel to both sides of the world to grief the two friends, I dunno, maybe he had a mount. In any case, they eventually meet up with each other only to have another roadblock put in front of them, the game was set up so each race had their own language so needless to say, conversation between the two was difficult unless they painstakingly learned the other races' language (a fun gameplay mechanic that I've yet to experience in a game, IMO; other than playing on an international server and playing with and actually learning another nation's real life language like in FFXI xp ). Once they finally got around to understanding each other they would trade their story about their run in with the PKer, thus starting their new adventure together of leveling up to eventually pwn their griefer smile Whether they would successful or not, I can't really say. The idea never really got that far, sadly.
Then, of course, there's that other idea I believe I've shared before of a massive medieval fantasy story I've always wanted to do. Unlike the others, this is one idea, dream and hopefully plan that I've always had tucked away in the back of my mind to eventually coming around to work on. It's basically going to house all my original characters that I've come up with and will have the original incarnation of Cidius Creid, whose had, thanks to GAIA's avatar system, many incarnations on his own. The story has recently gotten a slight change in setting. Rather than it being just a pure LotR-style fantasy story, it's in that transitionary period where magick is dying out with technology taking it's place. Where one hemisphere of the world is embracing Edwardian to Victorian-esque eras, the other is still clinging onto the Middle Ages. Following the story of a Prince and his lifelong friend driven out of their kingdom, across the ocean from an opposing Empire after his family is assassinated only to end up being separated on the new continent. One taken by slavers to serve and garner unparalleled fame as the greatest gladiator of a massive desert city and the other rescued while in a coma by a small fishing/farming community that just happens to end up getting raided days after waking up. Cliche? Maybe but I don't really care, the story is undoubtably going to evolve into something else the more I "work" on it. All I know for sure is that Dedgrim, Creid, Milliard and a slew of other characters I've come up with are going to be in this story. Maybe even the pirates I drew up last year, hehe. The biggest challenge, however, is how am I going to make this into a video game? xd 'cuz I honestly can't picture writing this as a book, producing this as a comic or drawing this into some shitty cartoon. After having played through BioShock, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Throne of Bhaal and anticipating for Mass Effect; after experiencing such story driven masterpieces I have no doubt that my own story has just got to be a video game as well. A video game with the gameplay fluidity, user-friendly UI and engaging alternative-timesink dungeon crawling of WoW, the character creating freedom of DnD, the character development of Arcanum and Fallout, unbelievable customizable NPC party AI that has a campaign that's playable as a single player game or 5-6 party multi-player, with periodical dungeon updates so people can keep playing after completing the 80-100 hour story lol Then of course, there's the sci-fi spiritual successor of this story that allows you to traverse a whole galaxy with hundreds to thousands of fully explorable planets rofl
So while I may not dream about being a celebrity superstar, an actor, athlete, musical performer, astronaut, film director or whatever else that's usually considered to be big dreams. For me however, everything I've written about in this entry so far, is just a fraction of what I really have in mind. To me, these ideas are big, these dreams are huge and it's all just a matter of planning it all out, being prepared for any bumps or hitches, taking hold and just going for it.
