Chapter four~ The Star within Grasp |

I held out my hand towards him, ushering him to me. His exotic being so unlike anything I've seen.
He reminded me of the flickering shadows of a candle light, they exist only in the light and if it is extingused so are they.
His deep blue eyes stared hard at my hand, almost seeming to burn a hole in it. I couldn't help but laugh at his hesitation. I know I look as ferocious as a wet kitten.
"I don't bite." I giggled, moving in closer.
His pale face look like vellum when I'm standing this close, so smooth that it hardly seemed anything about this man was human.
"That statement seems to contradict usual eating behaviors." His steady voice sounded almost as if he was challenging me to be agressive.
"I meant, I don't bite living thing." I couldn't help myself but laugh, he was just so unreal.
He stared at me, his eyes seeming to peel back my consciousness, looking for any trace of trickery or misleadings. He's very cautious, I wonder what he's been through to make him like this.
"You can't remember your name, but I'd still like to call you something." I try to get him talking again, he seems so very deep.
His eyes fell back into memories as he searched for a reasonable name, I'd guess. They way he dove into thought, it reminded me of an anciet being that would sit forever upon a descion, in no rush to give an answer, the asker in no rush to recieve one.
I however could be doing other things, so I take him by the hand and start leading him to my home. I don't like being out this late and with this exotic forienger I'm even more likely to get mugged.
"Listen, you'll remember it soon enough, but for now, I'm going to take you to my house. It's not too far from here." I smile back at him, watching his eyes delve back into his memories.
There's no way this guy could have amnesia. Yet, he seems to be reluctant to even go into his past. Supressed memories prehaps?
I stopped at crosswalk, waiting for the traffic signal, my mysterious guest seemed to have other ideas.
He continued to walk, his hand still firmly clamped to mine.
"Wait! You can't go out there!" I shout, yanking him back just before a speeding car zipped by. "That's dangerous."
He stopped to observe the traffic, almost perplexed by it. He tapped his finger on his chin, as if he was calculating something.
The signal for us to cross came and pulled him onwards. He still seemed to be reflecting on the traffic so I was quick about marching him across.
"Were you scared by that car?" I asked, thinking maybe the traffic startled him and that he was not use to vehicles.
"Negitive." His response came as a bit of shock. "I'm try to determine the likelyhood of a car passing by there at the exact same moment. I believe there is .004313% chance of that car not being there."
I couldn't help but giggle, it started making me wonder if I was taking home a walking supercomputer!
I was thinking back on all the smart people I've met over the years but he seemed... orginal. He didn't care about space and mathmatics, he more interested in the real world. He wanted to know about life just in a mathematical prespective.
Suddenly I jerked back, seeming to dislocate my shoulder. I groaned and looked back to see him standing there. How? He is so thin, how did he stop me like that?!
I grasp my throbbing shoulder, trying to sooth the pain.
"That there, what is that?" He asked pointing out over the street.
His eyes whirled around to me, his eyes scrutinizing me.
"Have you sustained an injury?" He asked, releasing my hand and turning to face me fully.
"It's my..." But before I can finish he has me bench with my shirt off. "Stop! Unhand me!" I freak out, tears starting to bloom in my eyes as he grasps my injuried arm.
"This is going to hurt, brace yourself." He instructed, keeping my other hand restrained.
He popped my shoulder into place, sending a searing jolt of pain through my body. I hissed and lurched forward. His hand traced the muscle of my shoulder and upper arm, seeming to draw on it.
"What are you-" My pain evaporated, almost as fleeting as the intial pain of relocating my shoulder.
"Are you still in pain?" He asked, pushing me out to arms lenght to get a better look at me.
I shake my head, too flabergasted to register anything. I felt up my arm, poking it as I went. I brought my other arm up, clenching my hand into a tight fist. No pangs, to tweaks, my arm was perfectly healed.
"How did you-?" I began but he redirected my attention.
"That. What is that?" He asked pointing back across the street.
I followed his arm to the statue sitting in the middle of art museum's courtyard. It was a statue of the god Corellion, god of the stars. The statue gazed stoicly skyward, his hand holding the scepter of the moon and a top his head the crown of life.
Surprisingly it reminded me of this stranger. As he looked up at the statue he looked just like him.
"That is the god of the stars, Corellion." I whisper, my breath stolen as I bask in the light of this god.
He may not be Corellion, but he makes me believe that he must exist. I see contemplation etched in his face, his head tilting ever so slightly as he tries to comprehend what I told him.
He starts off towards but I take him by the arm.
"That's a street too, cars always speed down through here." I tell him and as if to prove my point one came spriting by, whipping his black locks and sending the cloak billowing out.
For a brief moment I though just like that he was going to vanish into the darkness, that his candle light had been snuffed out.
"Don't go!" I shout and dive into the billowing cloth.
The cloth caresses my skin, evoloping me in a warm blanket of peace and perfection. I float ever closer to the center where I contact his solid body. The heat from him seems so much hotter than it should be.
As the wind dies down I seen that the only movement he had made was to turn his head to look at me.
"Sorry, I thought you were going back." I chuckle softly, nervous about his reaction.
I regretfully released his waist, allowing him to leave or yell, or whatever. I flinched as he spun about to me, his hand flying up towards my face. But instead of hitting me, he gently took my chin in his hand and burshed away the darkness that had been spilling onto me.
"Blackness has no place on you." He stated and held out his hand to me, waiting for me to accept his invite, waiting for me to take this fallen star into my grasp.
