In the past day and a half, my friends and I went backpacking into Castle Rock county park. At first I thought It was going to be fun, all we had to do was Hike in until it got dark, stopped at a campsite, sleep, then Hike back. If I knew we were walking a 16-mile round tripper I wouldn't be so happy. There were even life threatening situations where we could've been an inch away from falling to our deaths on a cliff. Our only hope of surviving was just a length of rope. MRE food wasn't that bad though.
However the return home was even more tedious. Walking uphill is a total pain. Also getting blisters on your feet for about 5 hours straight doesn't help much either. At that time I was running out of water as well... Probably the best line to ever describe this would be: "I can't believe I walked through 16 miles of hell and back just to have a great time" Did I have a great time? HELL YEAH MAN!!!!!! I hope that those with comfortable Hiking shoes go backpacking at least once in their life. I expect to go at least a few more trips, only because im in the BSA.
