Kim Jaejoong (김재중) left his hometown in Chungnam to audition for SM Entertainment. Having left the shelter of home, he experienced poverty and strife before becoming a celebrity. Kim debuted as YoungWoong Jaejoong (영웅재중; the English definition to his stage name is "Hero" wink His manager picked the name Hero for him because he wanted him to be the hero of the music industry. Kim was selected from an audition of 5000 people. Kim won first place, both in best looking and best vocals. Thus Kim became the main vocal of TVXQ.
Hero has a very shy and mysterious personality. He has a great voice. The other members say that in TV he doesn't talk much but when they are alone he never stops talking. He looks very cute when he is acting and he has a gorgeous face. He is the oldest in the group but the others say that he acts like a little boy, fighting with Max, who is the youngest.

What do you do before sleeping? : “Looking at the calendar and check out the next day’s schedule…”
Wish? : “Not getting sick but being healthy and keeping our friendship, I want to sing in TVXQ! for the rest of my life.”
Deciding to be a singer? : “I used to be tone deaf when I was younger. I was bad at singing up to the 8th grade. Although I liked to sing and sang a lot my friends made fun of me because I couldn’t sing well. So I practiced a lot and on 9th grade I went for an audition. Obviously I failed at the first test. And then joining the band, for about a year I’d practice hard from them. Afterwards I made it to the audition and now I’m a singer. I think my biggest motivation was H.O.T. Looking at H.O.T, I dreamed of being a singer, learning to sing and dance, I remember that.”
Writing music? : “Now I’m practicing with the other members as well. It takes considerable time. When sitting in front of the computer on my desk and in front of the piano and working on the music, time just flies by. Once I get into work 5 or 6 hours just pass by. I’m in the middle of schedules now so I can’t really get into writing music. But I exchange ideas with the other members. We exchange inspirations and help each other and I’m learning to write music and lyrics.”
Cassiopeia? : “Our fan club, ‘Cassiopeia’ is like a girlfriend to me, or often like a sister to me. They’re always near us and we want to see them and when it’s hard for us they’re always there to support and love us. I guess in a sense, it’s more than friends who are right next to us.”
Best present? : “Underwear. They once gave us underwear as a present and had our names printed on it, so that each one’s never got mixed. Our fans, they are that much thoughtful.”
Fans from Japan, Taiwan, China and in other foreign countries: “Nothing’s different other than the fact that they are more far away than Koreans fans are. They all have the passions. Although we speak in different languages we have he common spirit. We are singing and dancing on the stage and the fans are cheering for far away and looking at us. Those kinds of passions can’t be compared whatever countries the fans are from. It’s all the same.”
Miss Right?: “Someone who wouldn’t change from the moment I see her until the moment we get older together. Although it’d be hard to meet whether she’s my Miss Right or not, if I have someone I loved, I’ll try to keep the loving mind for all my life. I guess that’d be a condition to meet Miss Right.”
Proposal? : “I’d probably prefer something that anybody can do other than really luxurious proposal. Something small and simple that will carry my heart. Not something materialistic. For example if I’ll have met her for five years I’ll record all the events on a diary and give it as a present. I’ll write everything we’ve done on it. So we’ll read it looking back and saying, ‘yeah we did it back then’. This was when we misunderstood each other… This incident made us love each other more… After marriage we’ll read the diary thinking of the past and have a chance to love more.”
Last word: “I think this is the first time ever that I’ve talked this much on a camera. I’m not a person who talks a lot among the members. Anyway, I think I showed a lot of my private sides to you. I don’t know why you don’t have more questions. You should’ve asked more personal things. I had a lot to say about my real figures. I guess you all have more to ask but you’ve seen a lot today I hope you’ve enjoyed it. As I’ve already said, we TVXQ! will always keep our friendship, stay healthy and do our best.
