• Out in the night with the moon's light
    Cutting through the black
    Seeking water for his house
Is the young man named Jack.

    Coming from the same house
    Also ascending the hill
    Carrying the bucket with her
    Is his lovely sister, Jill.

    The old stone well
    Which sits upon the climb
    Beckons the water seekers
And those reading this nursery rhyme.

    Jack reaches the well first
    And glances inside
    Sees the moon's reflection
Marking the water trying to hide.

    Jill follows her brother
    Close enough behind
    To fill up their bucket
    With the water they find.

    Just as they descend
From the well on the hill
    Jack steps on a rock
    And takes a great spill.

    Straight down the hill
    Nothing to catch his fall
He fears he'll break a bone
Or worse, he'll break them all.

    Jill chases after Jack
And watches him hit his head.
    She weeps desperately for him
    Fearing him for dead.

    Just then Jack stirs
    And opens his eyes.
    Then slowly he sits
    To embrace Jill's cries.

    Now this famous story
Of the seekers on the hill
    Is forever spoken by
The kids reading "Jack and Jill."
