TairoruXRyuu's Journal
Heh, the title's not very creative....
A journal detailing a race that I've made up. Red tells specifically of their powers. Purple tells of information directly relating to Yuurei. Thankyou c:

While Absukis are considered a race of humans, they exhibit many qualities that normal humans don't have and have a slightly different lineage. The word Absuki comes from the Latin word 'absque', which means 'free'. The Absuki are known for their connection to the spirits of the dead. They can communicate freely with them and see them, but are also born with powers of telekinesis and illusion-creating, as well as a special abilities that are different for each of the three branches. In addition to communicating with spirits, some Absukis can freely manipulate their own souls by leaving and reentering their own bodies. This is the trait that they are most famous for. They can't do this completely naturally, however.
To achieve the ability to manipulate one's own soul, an Absuki must be put on a special diet and training regimen at a very young age. (The younger they begin, the more powerful they will become as adults; however, this increases the risk of an early death.) Children are started on an early form of the diet at age 4, which consists of seeds, nuts, berries, bark, rice, Ichor, and a liquid derived from spirits called ectoplasm. The diet is meant to strip fat from the children's bodies, with ectoplasm making it easier for them to communicate with spirits and the Ichor revitalizing the children's bodies. At age 7, the children will start drinking the tea made from the sap of a tree sacred to the Absukis. It is toxic, but it is meant to bring the children's bodies close enough to death that their souls become loose from their bodies. It is in this stage that many Absuki children in training die. Shortly after they begin drinking the poison tea, Absuki children are subject to intense training in order to learn how to release their souls from their bodies. They are started in training to have completely controllable out of body experiences. Some children who are able to release their souls from their bodies are not able to get back in within enough time, and their bodies rot enough that they can't return, and they are permanently dead. This is the second highest cause of death among Absuki children. Children who pass this stage are most likely to survive into adulthood (despite this fact, some individuals still die an early death; this could be due to inconsistency in diet or simply extreme frailty caused by the diet.) No other race can live through this diet and regimen. The diet can vary across different branches.
Appearance-wise, Absukis that have gone through the extreme diet and training are visibly distinguished from ordinary Absukis. Because of their diet, their skin has turned a light, ashen gray, devoid of any color. The diet also affects an Absuki's hair and eye colors, and even slight alterations can change them. Absukis who haven't gone through the whole diet and training process appear as mostly normal human beings. Their appearances are different across the branches. Absukis of Yuurei's branch commonly have pale white skin and jet black hair, along with a very thin frame, and mostly resemble East Asian races.
When an Absuki phases out of their body, the strength of their powers increases exponentially and they even gain more abilities. As a soul, they have strong powers of telekinesis, possession, selective visibility, weightlessness, limited teleportation, the ability to phase through matter, creation of illusions, weak manipulation of weather, and a special ability specific to each branch. Yuurei's branch can use ghost fire to fight. Ghost fire can only be used by Absukis able to separate their souls from their bodies. Ghost fire doesn't physically burn things, but it burns souls. They can also take souls out of a living person's body and return them at will.
Absuki souls are a delicacy among demons. An Absuki who is currently out-of-body is at extreme risk of being eaten, since they are essentially souls out in the open. Normal Absukis have no defense against demons, and therefore must remain within their bodies if being pursued by one. The only way for an Absuki to defeat a demon is to access Nephilim powers.
