Weekly Writer: Week 13
Reflect on the following statement: "In an online world, for as connected as we seem to be, there is something key missing in the interaction that makes it real."
When I have a conversation with someone IRL, my voice changes, I move around, I can hold a hand, try and strain to hear a whisper, regret that my someone ate tuna for lunch or share a bite of that tuna sandwich. How are you going to see the the way the fabric of my new skirt falls, or pick off that stray, almost invisible cat hair. I can try and comfort you, but I cannot reach out my arms to hold you. I won't be able to lean over to hear your whisper. You can send me a recipe to make your tuna sandwich, but how can I take a bite? I can't smell your favorite perfume.
The internet is nice, I can stay in touch with people far away, meet people I never would in my small town, but there is nothing that can replace walking along the beach with a friend, feeling the warmth of the sun, smell of the ocean while eating an ice cream cone.
