Aidan: Alright, I'm going to let you off here.
The carriage screeched to a halt as it approached the outskirts of the marketplace.
Aidan: I want you to be careful. Find your sister as soon as possible and head north.
Jessina: Okay.
She pushed the trunk out of the way and came out from under the bench and out of the cart, fixing her hair as she was out in the open.
Jessina: Thanks again for helping me.
Aidan: Anything to save lives.
Jessina gave her new friend a hug and took a few steps away.
Jessina: Bye, Aidan.
Aidan: Goodbye...
With that, she took off into the dark night with nothing but the clothes on her back, daggers in her pockets, and freedom in her soul.
Cal slept soundly in his tent, though on the ground, due to the fact that his mother made him give up his bed for Lissabelle. However, something in his dream was bothering him. It wasn't really a dream- more like a forgotten old memory: a memory connected to the present day, in a way he couldn't find...
Cal was eight years old, playing in the thicket by the lake with his friends and his new sword. He had always loved his blade: it never left his side, and it was always a fun prop to use while playing with friends.
Anthony: Okay, girls! Empty all of your pockets! I want jewelry, cash, valuables! All of it, right here!
The childhood version of his friend held up a burlap sack in one hand, pretending the other hand was a gun pointed to Katie and Chloe, who were still just as inseperable as they were today.
Katie: Oh...okay...
Chloe: Just don't hurt us!
Cal: Leave them alone!
Cal came rushing in to "save the day" brandinshing his sword, his head held high.
Anthony: Oh, wadda you gonna do about it?
Cal held up his sword and backed up into a dueling stance.
Cal: What do you think I'm gonna do about it?
Anthony: Well...I...huh?
He stopped as a little girl they didn't recognize approached from the beach. She was small and fair skinned, wearing an expensive pink dress and her curly hair was finely tied by a little pink ribbon.
Lissabelle: Hi... Can I play...?
Cal took a look at her and smiled.
Cal: 'Course you can. What's your name?
Lissabelle: Lissabelle Fray.
She smiled back.
Cal: Okay! In the game, my name's Kale, that's Marissa and Carissa, and Xavier's the bad guy. What do you want your name to be?
The new girl giggled.
Lissabelle: Um... Lemme think... Adriana?
Cal: That works.
Anthony: Okay, well anyway.... I'm the bad guy, Marissa and Carissa are victims, Kale's the hero... You can be.... Um....
Chloe: Kale's trusty sidekick!
Cal: Okay!
Lissabelle: Alright then. What do I do?
Cal: Um... Just follow me and help me beat the bad guy!
Lissabelle: Okay!
Anthony: You think a sharpened piece of metal's gonna stop me?!
Cal: It will once it's in your heart!
Anthony: Oh yeah?!
He rushed over and took Lissabelle into his arms. She tried to fidget, but was trapped in his grasp.
Lissabelle: Kale!
Cal: Adriana! Let her go, Xavier! She didn't do anything!
Anthony: Oh I'll let her go. Once you give me your sword and you two girls gimme all your cash!
Cal: Leave her alone!
Lissabelle broke free of his arms and ran back over to Cal with a smile on her face.
Anthony: Hey... That's not fair! Re-do!
Cal: Nuh-uh! We don't do re-dos!
Anthony: Gosh! Why do I always have to lose when we play?
Cal: Cuz you're the bad guy! The good guy always wins!
Anthony: Ugh. I'm leaving. This isn't fun anymore...
He stormed off and the two other girls followed.
Lissabelle: I should go too. If I'm not back at the chateau before lunchtime, my mother will start to worry...
Cal: The chateau? Do your parents work for the royals?
Lissabelle: Um.... Actually....my parents...are the royals.
Cal: Really? That must be so cool!
Lissabelle: Not really. I don't like it... I would rather just be...um...normal...
Cal: Oh... Why?
Lissabelle: I dunno... I just..don't...like it...
Jessina: Lissy! Lissy where are you? Mother's looking for you!
A second voice came from the forest, calling towards them.
Lissabelle: That's my sister... I have to go... Good bye, Kale!
She gave him a hug, but went for him too fast and cut her arm on his sharp blade.
Lissabelle: Ow!
She pulled her arm back towards her as the wound began to bleed and she began to cry.
Cal: Oh.... I'm sorry... Here...
He pulled off his headband and wrapped it over her arm. She sniffled as he tied it tight.
Cal: Better?
Lissabelle: Mm hm...
She sniffled again.
Cal: Alright... You should go. Your sister must be waiting...
Lissabelle: Okay... Bye Cal... And thank you.
She turned and left in the direction that her sister had called.
His dream seemed to skip over to the next day. He was playing by the lake this time, by himself, skipping rocks on the glassy waters. Suddenly, he heard a carriage fly by, the horses' hooves pounding on the rocky ground. He looked into the carriage and saw those shining hazel eyes, covered with tears like he had seen them the day before.
Lissabelle: Kael!
She called to him, reaching out of the carriage, but passing by too fast before she could say anything more. He never saw those pretty eyes again...At least...not for a while...
Cal sat up, more confused than he ever had been.
Cal: (Lissabelle? Lissy...? Never... Couldn't be possible...)
He looked over to the sleeping child next to him.
Cal: (Lissabelle...that little girl...she was a princess... Lissy is... she's an orphan... But those eyes... I couldn't forget them.... But maybe....)
He had a flashback of that moment when she cut her arm.
Cal: (The cut was deep... It could have left a scar....)
He scooted over to his bed, where the girl laid asleep. Her arm laid delicately atop the covers, with a thin, pink mark down the side.
Cal: (It...It can't be...)
He backed up as the girl began to stir softly.
Cal: But...but she was...she was the princess...
