. Today people use rifles and other types of firearms to protect themselves and fight wars, but who made this possible? Well his name is Eliphalet Remington II. He was born on October 28 1793 in the state of Connecticut. Eliphalet spent most of his time in New York. He died at the age of 68 on August 12, 1861. The reason he is so famous is because he invented a new type of rifle barrel. When he entered it in a contest he received a good ranking and every body wanted one. So what made him do such a thing? Eliphalet’s father was a blacksmith and taught him what he knew. Eliphalet later became skilled at forging metals and being a blacksmith. So how was his early life?
Eliphalets younger life is pretty much a normal childhood. Eliphalet was the only boy of four children; he was also the only child that survived childhood. He had an elementary education. When he was young they moved to New York because his father bought a piece of land. There his father started a farm on the land that he had bought. As a child he helped his father on the farm. He will later accomplish many things.
One of his greatest accomplishments was opening his businesses. Eliphalet and his father first opened a gunsmith shop. After his fathers death Eliphalet realized the advantages of opening a factory on the Erie Canal. The only reason his businesses were so popular was because of his firearms. He later manufactured agricultural implements at his factories. I believe that he working with his father enabled him to do what he did.
The reason Eliphalet’s businesses and factories were so famous was because of his firearms. The first type of rifle that he made was a flint rock rifle at the age of 23, which he entered in a contest. Nobody was really involved in the making of this rifle. After entering his rifle in the contest he got a good ranking therefore making his rifles very popular. If Eliphalet wasn’t good at being a blacksmith he probably wouldn’t have accomplished such a great thing. Really if he didn’t make that barrel he wouldn’t have became such a historical figure.
Eliphalet supplied the federal government with firearms during the civil war. He later continued to supply the government. Eliphalet also created new types of guns such as the breech loading rifle. His most important achievement was indeed the creation of the flint rock rifle barrel because that’s what’s started him off. Eliphalet wanted to make a gum that any body could have and that would be accurate. In conclusion Eliphalet Remington II became a historical figure do to the rifle
