I get into my blood red pick up truck. I drive to work. When I arrive my best friend Nicole greeted me at the door. “Hello, Athena! We have just seated 62 people. We have three reservations for a late brunch and a new case. And-”
“We have a case on a Sunday! But we-”
“Yes I know we just got off a case. But we need to keep on our toes to be promoted up a level than what we are. And you love puzzles. So what’s the harm?”
“There is no harm unless you don’t have a life. We have families to take care of. Don’t you want to be there when your daughter, Michelle, says her first word?”
A look of shame came across her face. Just like that time her mom said she was the perfect ten year old and would never would snoop for her Christmas presents. That look when she bites her bottom lip turns her head slightly so she does not make eye contact with you and turns her eyes to the completely different direction.
In a serious voice I asked “What was it?”
“Mommy not here.’ She said when I silently walked in to surprise ‘em.”
After another 5 minutes of seating customers Susanne, our best pastry chef, came out and told me that Nicole wanted to see me in our headquarters. Susanne is our only employee that knows about us being secret agents. She makes the best lies for when we are working on a case and she is allowed to tell people about the headquarters because no one believes her about anything. Between us she makes up a lot of stories.
I opened up the folder and read the title. In big bold letters I read “THE ONE WHO CUTS”. my heart started to pound. I remembered when my friend said if she could she would kill everyone who laughs and makes fun of people that cut and if I was right her last victim was Derek Robert Stephanoff. I started to read the names they were all the people who said she would kill except there was a twist. The one person that was on top of the list was not who she said if was someone completely different. It was Chantel Boyd. Chantel did not care if Michelle cut, she did not like her, but she still did not care.-
The person she said she was going to kill first was Sarah Casnovsky. I was surprised, maybe we were dealing with a different person. But we couldn’t. it is just impossible. She said she was. She could be framed. Who in their write mind would want to frame her? That was the dumbest question I ever asked myself. Anyone in our class would want to frame her. As I read the list their were some people that she would have never killed. Like Haley Urban, or Ashley Delpier. Both of these people cut too and did not really care what she did.
- At the bottom was the person she said she going to kill before Derek. I ordered an immediate PIC (person in custody). When we got to our office in our disguises Derek asked what this was all about. We explained the situation. He was so shocked. He said he never made fun of her cutting herself.
“remember when it was really cold out and everyone was playing with the ice in 8TH grade?” I asked him
He responded, “Yeah! What about it?”
“Well,” I started, “ at that time you were going out with Rebecca. She told you that Michelle was cutting and you went up to her with a piece of ice and said ’Michelle I got your razor’ and that pretty much ticked her off!”
“Oh that time now I remember. But how do you know that?”
“Let’s just say I am your worst nightmare! We are your worst nightmare, here, now, and forever. You have to stay in protective custody. We have to find Michelle before she can attack you.”
