Fashion prompt
Another Jakobo prompt!

Jakobo
Who decides what you wear? Have you ever decided to change your style, and if so, why? Have you ever had to stick to a "dress code"?

I mostly decide what I wear, but I get advice from L0cke and my younger sister Amy sometimes. I wasn't really fashion conscious before college; I'd just wear whatever was on sale or clearance at Old Navy or Mervyns.

During college, I started getting into Asian music and dramas and my fashion got influenced by Japanese/Korean/HK styles. eBay's a pretty good source to get that kind of style. These days, I go a little subtler on Asian style (I think), and I try to wear colors like black and gray. I shop online at H&M, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and GAP a lot. I think I'm getting influenced by British fashion since I've gotten into knitting again and the Brits come up with really nice knitting patterns. (I've been looking for a nice herringbone pencil skirt for a while now...)

The only time I've ever had to stick to a "dress code" was during middle school. I had to wear white polo shirts and navy slacks or skirts.

Ah, I love Asian oriented stuff as well. I have a few asian inspired robes, but nothing all that fancy.

What I really would want, is a Kimono. I mean, the real deal with the Obi and everything. If I could be a Geisha for one day...okay, now I'm just sounding like another one of those white girls who wants to be Japanese. Which, I don't. I like Japan for it's culture and I'd like to try things out. :3

Uniform dress codes sucked. Even though there is a lax dress code at my school, it's so much better and I imagine college will just rock yet be shocking at the same time.

It's nice to see you update your journal much more often now, Ling. smile

Oh geese, let me guess the stereotypical "school girl" outfit? White shirt, Blue skirt, black footwear, red ribbons and stuff?

Meh, so far in all of the anime con's I've seen you at you don't seem to dress too "asian".

And as for knitting, I'd really like to see some of your work. My mother does stitching and other works with fabric all the time. sweatdrop

I think by dress code, Jakobo meant any guidelines as to what you should or should not wear. I don't think she was talking about uniforms.

What's HK and H&M?

H&M is awesome... but I only go there when I go to 'Frisco with my sister.

Gynoid - I'm not sure where you were coming from with that statement about school girl outfits, but no, that's not what I wear. I've been told I dress Asian-influenced by the Asians around me on a fairly regular basis.

13 of Spades - Can't a uniform be within a dress code, though? HK = Hong Kong, H&M = large, worldwide clothing chain that originated in Sweden. And by the way, Jakobo is male. He has an interesting story about why his avatar is female.

Yea, I like to get advice from my friends escpecially since they have more fashion sense than I right now. sweatdrop

But yea in my middles school years we went by the same basic dress code, it was the suck. I was so happy when I made it to highschool and was allowed freedom in my clothing styles again. ^_^

Asian styles are very pretty, and a couple of my friends are really into it. But I enjoy a more Hipster 70's style. Hee, but without all the ruffles I suppose. 3nodding British fashion has becoming more known in America lately, and they're not to bad, just a little tight for my figure.

Hmmm, I remember Mervyns. It no longer exists in Minnesota xd My mother would shop there a lot~

I've started listening more to Japanese/asian music - though I may not understand the language xd

No, I don't wear Japanese schoolgirl uniforms. I might have been unclear on what I meant by "Asian style;" I meant the current street fashion that people are wearing in places like Korea and Taiwan today.

Stuff like this:

Ling - Wow those are pretty!

I never really liked asian stuff, I've always fancied more europian styles. Or just plain clothes, like maybe a polo shirt and jeans. Either that or when I go to clubs to party with my bf I dress up in pretty scary stuff my mom would hate to see me in. redface

And the last 2 are pretty adorable! sweatdrop

Awww~ when you said Asian clothing I was half hoping you were an h.naoto fan. sweatdrop

You wear the kind of cloth my friend wears. She say's it's very loose and confortable. I could never wear it because we have such different body shapes. ^^;

Then everyone would be so amazed they...
I don't know where i'm going with this...

Only time I've had to adhere to a dress code was when I worked fast food. Had to wear the Hardee's shirt with black pants and the visor that made my forehead itch like crazy. (Okay, and the Thursday uniforms in J ROTC in high school. sweatdrop But I liked that uniform.)

Hopefully when I get this job in TX, I'll be able to start buying things I actually like instead of what happened to fit at the time. Of course, then it'll be Asian stuff abounds. Okay, Asian and a few of these Gstore shirts. I tend to be more into band shirts or things that are boyish rather than feminine stuff, because I see 'girlly' clothes as something you were when you go out with people. Not when you're just walking through town or going to the store.

I tend to lean a lot towards blacks and blues(like my old ROTC uniform xd ), sometimes purple (it brings out my eyes), mostly dark colours. Easier on the eyes than all these winter pastels and neonish blast-from-the-80s colours I've been seeing during the summer. A lot of my clothes have dragons or something with some sort of Asian or Paganistic quality, like triquestras, triple moons and that sort of thing. And the only time you can get me anywhere near a dress (unless someone else's wearing it) is if it has a victorian/renaissance/etc style or design to it. (Shhh, leave me along about my EGL fascination. gonk Meh, I was into that back in Mizer's Klaha era...heck, Mana was the reason I liked it. emo )

Oh! xd And I'm starting to pick up patterns and make my own stuff.

H&M and UO are awesome stores. (Especially the H&M in SF, it's huge!)

It's so tricky to be fashion aware until you start paying attention to what you like that others are wearing or without having tried on a bunch of different clothes you picked out yourself. It becomes a lot easier to see something at the store or online and think "I'll look great in that".

I'm only starting to get fashion conscious -- Though, to see me around the office you wouldn't know it since my best stuff I only ever wear out. Plus these G-Corp shirts are a perfect fit and work-appropriate here!
