Weekly Writer: Week 1
Welcome to the new year! In typical "new year" fashion, what's the one thing you intend to do in the coming year? Why is it important to you that you do it?
I am trying (trying!) to become a calmer person. I'm not a particularity out of control rampaging person, but when presented with a situation that puts me on the defensive, I will sometimes react or just stew about the situation for hours instead of taking a moment to breathe and think. Thank goodness this isn't all the time, but not snapping at people and trying to think clearly and from their perspective is so much better than the alternative, don't you think? (and if you don't shhh... don't encourage me to break my attempt so early after I've started!)
Example: People cutting in line. I'm not talking about saving a place for someone, just straight out ignoring myself and the rest of the line as they slide in before me. I tend to respond with sarcasm (which, unfortunately people don't seem to understand these days), or a slightly raised irritated voice when all I need to probably do is the time honored, "Excuse me, I believe I was first the line is back that-a-way."
Breathe. Think. I can do this.
