By Sandra Louise Benedict*

Daikashu and her friend Emichi sat on the front porch waiting for Daikashu's mother, she was at the bar... She was always there. The only time she wasn't, was when she was eating and sleeping. Daikashu's father was gone... He died in a car crash last year; that was when her mother started drinking.
Daikashu's life seemed really lonely; she did not have many friends. All the kids at school made fun of her for being fatherless... They had no clue how much pain there was involved with losing someone so close. The only reason she had Emichi as a friend was because Emichi's father was gone too. Emichi never talked about it though so Daikashu never knew what had happed to him.
"Daikashu... Your mother is a little later tonight" Emichi said, getting a little tired of sitting there. "Well... maybe some idiot is holding her up..." Daikashu kicked a rock that laid on the step she had been sitting on. "Maybe..."
Just as Emichi said that, Daikashu heard her mother's car race down the road. Daikashu, Happy that her mother was safely home once again, ran to meet her at the end of the driveway. Daikashu's mother parked the car then took a step out into the night air.
Emichi leaned onto Daikashu's shoulder waiting for Daikashu's mom to turn around. "Good morning Mrs. Takashi" Emichi said with an energetic tone in her voice. Momiji Takashi turned and faced the two girls. As she did, Emichi and Daikashu gasped.
Momiji was white... Like she had seen a ghost, and there were two puncture wounds on her neck; they where about an inch away from each other. Daikashu saw a slight movement in the corner of her right eye. She turned to see a man come from behind the car and grab Emichi. Emichi let out a startled scream. The man sunk his teeth into Emichi's neck, quickly, making her startled scream turn to a painful scream. Daikashu grabbed Emichi's arm and pulled but the man had a firm grip into the young girl’s body. Once he was finished with her, he let her body drop to the ground; Emichi was so white and lifeless. Her body only made a light thud as it hit.
"Hello." The man said to Daikashu as she took a step back "Leave me alone!!!" Daikashu screamed as she turned and ran past her mother. Her mom was lying on the ground now. "Mother...?" Daikashu whispered as she went by. The man had no problem catching up with Daikashu. "So you think you can run away?" the man smirked. He grabbed Daikashu by the hair and pulled her back. Daikashu screamed as she felt herself falling. The man pulled her back to her feet by her hair.
"If you want to know, before I kill you that is, my name is Adius." A split second after Adius had said his name; he sank his fangs into Daikashu's neck. Her body shook slightly and her eyes slowly turned white. Adius noticed her blood seemed to be changing too. Adius pulled his teeth from her neck and turned Daikashu's body to face him. He saw her eyes changing. "Go figure..." He turned her back around so that her back was facing his chest. Then he pulled her against his chest, holding her firmly there. He bit his free arm and made her drink his blood. After what seemed like hours, he pulled his arm away from her mouth and let her body drop to the ground. Daikashu shook violently and whimpers could be heard by anyone listening close enough. "And now... you shall be my slave."
Daikashu woke up in a puddle of cold sweat. "Not that dream again." It was late and very dark. She looked at the clock on the side of her bed. It was 2:23am. Daikashu threw the covers off of her sweating body and made her way to her the closet to grab some clothes. She went into the bathroom and changed into her tight fitting, short black dress.
Daikashu grabbed her knives, the ones that had chains hooked onto the end, and smiled as she walked out the door. There was a bright gleam as the light caught the perfectly white fangs protruding from her smile. She walked out into the cold night air. "Wow, beautiful night tonight," she said to herself as she made her way to her car. She drove a 2005 Mustang convertible, the one she had gotten when her mom died.
Daikashu sat down in the driver's seat of the car. "I think I'm going to go to the club tonight," she said as she started the car. The mustang purred like a cat; and the sound brought a smile to Daikashu's face. She pulled out of the small driveway and started down the road. Daikashu only lived about two blocks away from the club, so it didn't take long for her to get there.
She parked her car and got out. As she locked and slammed the door behind her, the edge of her dress got caught in the door. Not realizing this, she took a step away from her car and fell on her face. "Ouch! What the...?" Daikashu sat up and looked back. Part of her dress had torn off and was still in the door. "Lovely..." she said as she got back to her feet and dusted herself off. Daikashu examined the rip and then sighed. It didn't rip far, but still, it was her favorite dress. She turned around and faced the car. "Stupid thing!" she said as she kicked the car causing it flipped over on to the car she had parked next to. Daikashu turned around and stomped off towards the entrance of the club.
"ID please." the bouncer at the door said. Daikashu pulled a card out of her bra, handed it to the man, and stood there impatiently. "Okay, here miss. You can come in." The man handed her ID back and stepped aside. Daikashu pushed past the man as she entered. "Jeez... I'm freaking hungry..." She walked into the crowd and made her way across to the bar.
"Bloody Mary! I'm dying' here!" Daikashu yelled to the bar tender. "Coming up!" the young bartender said. Daikashu sat at the bar and smiled. "So how are you Mikiru?" The young girl turned around when she heard her name. "Well, if it isn't Daimi, I'm doing great!" Mikiru yelled over the loud music. Daikashu laughed quietly, she hadn't been called Daimi in a long time. Mikiru handed Daikashu her drink. "Bottoms up," Daikashu said then she swallowed the bloody drink down quickly. "That was great Miki!" Daikashu slammed the small glass back down on the bar. "So, I haven't seen you since your mother’s funeral... What happened?" Mikiru sat down the towel she was using to dry the shot glasses with and leaned into the counter. "Well... I'm not out much since becoming a vampire and all..." Daikashu pulled her hair back and to the side so it was hanging over her right shoulder.
"Dai, I think you need to cut your hair a little," Mikiru said jokingly, knowing Daikashu hated getting her hair cut. “Well, I don’t think I want to do that…” Daikashu stood up and smiled. “I’m going to go find something to eat! Talk to you later, Mikiru.” Daikashu winked to Mikiru as she walked off. "How can she be so calm? Taking life from others so she can live... doesn't that affect her?" Mikiru said to herself.
Daikashu walked into the middle of a crowd on the dance floor and she started dancing with two men. The lights where flashing and the smell of sweat was in the air; one of the men Daikashu was dancing with soon started kissing her neck. She turned around and faced him. "Man I'm hungry... I’ve got to get a bite," Daikashu said as she walked off to a door in the back of the club holding the man's hand in hers. Daikashu opened the door and walked in, she turned and faced the guy, and she kissed his neck. Unaware to him; there were other vampires in the room feeding on people just like him. Daikashu kissed his neck and giggled. The man smiled and grabbed Daikashu's shirt trying to pull it over her head. Daikashu held it in place. She kissed his neck again, and then she sank her fangs into his neck.
He yelped in pain as he saw the blood on all of the beds that were in the room. People with blood on their lips watched him as Daikashu drained him of life. The man felt weaker every time he blinked. Soon he was so weak that he fell backwards onto a bed that was behind him. Daikashu climbed on top of him and drained him of what blood he had left. She then got off the young man’s body and stood up. "Well... I'm not hungry anymore," she said as she wiped her lips off. Her long purple hair had blood caked into it from the blood on the floor. "Jeez... can't vampires be a little cleaner?" she said to herself as she walked out of the room holding her hair up slightly.
Daikashu made her way back to the bar. "Mikiru? Do you have something I can clean my hair up with? I got blood in it from the floor in the feeding room." she said with a look of disgust on her face. "Well... I don't but there is a cleanup room in the back... Staff only, but I can get you in!" Mikiru smiled and grabbed a towel. "Bar closed for a few minutes!" All the men that were at the bar made disappointed noises and walked away. Mikiru grabbed Daikashu's arm lightly and pulled her in the back. "Thanks a lot Mikiru. You’re a good friend!" Daikashu said while smiling "No prob! You’re a pretty good friend yourself...” “Remember that time and that guy in the alleyway... when he pinned me to the wall?" "Yeah... what an idiot... He was dead within a minute!" Daikashu said giggling. "Here is the room. You get yourself clean now. I have to go back to the bar before I get in trouble." Mikiru made her way back out of the staff area and soon disappeared from Daikashu's sight.
Daikashu walked into the small room and ran water in the little sink. "I don't think there is enough room in the sink to do this. I have way too much hair!" Daikashu sighed. "Well, I'll just have to go home." She walked out of the room and made her way back to the dance floor. She walked through the crowd of people and vampires. Many young men tried to dance with her as she was trying to get through. Finally she made it to the door; she looked at the clock that was above the door. “4:32 am already?” Daikashu thought to herself. "The sun will be up soon."
A rush of air came in making the bouncer turn around. He saw Daikashu and smiled. "Well... did you have a good time Miss?" The bouncer asked. "Yeah. It was fine," Daikashu said making her way past him. She walked to her car and sighed, "Oh yeah..." Daikashu then saw the ripped part of her dress. "Stupid car..." She glared at it and sighed. Daikashu turned around and started walking in the direction to her house. "Just my freaking luck!"
After walking a short distance, Daikashu suddenly stopped "Adius..." she said to the man standing in front of her.” I’m surprised you remembered my name," Adius said smirking. "How could I forget?! You freaking killed my mother, my best friend and me!" Daikashu swung her fist at him, but he caught her arm. "They tasted good... and you... you were great," Adius said teasingly, trying to make Daikashu even angrier.
Daikashu pulled her arm away from him and glared. "Why did you even turn me into one of these disgusting creatures?!" Daikashu screamed at him "Why didn't you let me die with the people I love?! Why do you want me to stay alive?" Daikashu swung at his face again this time landing a slap to the check, but he didn't move. Daikashu held her hand where she had hit him, stunned. "Maybe it's because I love you," he said bringing his hand up to hers and holding it. "Well! I can NEVER love something like you!" She pulled her hand away and quickly grabbed her blades that were hiding just under her dress. "Kill me now, or I'll kill you!" she said as she pulled the blades and took her fighting stance.
Adius pulled out a short sword from under his trench-coat. "Well... We shall see what happens," he said. Daikashu's eyes glowed slightly and the chains that were apart of her blades started to float around her body, making a shield. Adius smirked as his sword started to glow a red color. Daikashu screamed and a chain flew at Adius hitting him in the shoulder. "My-oh-my, you’ve gotten strong!" Adius said with a slight smile. Daikashu flung one of her blades at him, missing his head by about an inch. "I want you dead!" she screamed. Adius faded out and laughed. "You will have to get better than that my dear Dai." he said playing with her mind. She looked around franticly trying to find where he went. Adius reappeared behind her laughing. "Night, Night, sweet bride of mine." Then he used the end of the handle on his sword and hit her in the back of the head making her fall forward and land on the ground unconscious. Adius picked her up and disappeared.
Daikashu rolled over and pulled her pillow closer to her head. She opened her eyes and the memories from the fight with Adius flashed into her mind. “No!” she shouted as she sat straight up in bed. She looked around the room. It was painted a dark purple color and everything in the room matched. “Jeez… Now where am I?” she said as she got up out of the soft bed rubbing the back of her head. “Oh, it feels like I’ve been hit… Wait, I have been hit!” Daikashu rolled her eyes as she made her way to the door.
“Wow, it’s so dark in here, its lucky I am able to see. Even though I may hate being a blood sucker, it has its ups.” She reached the door and turned the handle only to find it was locked. “What?! Locked!?” Daikashu glared at the author. “Evil…” She walked back to the big beautiful bed she had awoken in. “Well, at least Adius had style,” she said half to herself.
“Why thank you.” Adius’ voice was heard somewhere in the room. Daikashu quickly turn and faced the direction where she thought she had heard his voice come from. “Come out! Why didn’t you kill me!? I’m tired of you doing this to me!” Daikashu screamed as a tear made its way down her cheek. Adius walked out from the shadows and came over to Daikashu. “Get away!” Daikashu screamed while trying to hide in the corner. “You have done too much for me to ever forgive you, ever.”

Adius kneeled down in front of Daikashu. “And I’m sorry. I just wanted someone to love.” Adius brought his hand to her face and wiped the tear from her eye. Daikashu looked at him with her eyes red from crying. “How can I even trust you love me? You’ve killed everyone I loved. I have only lived to kill you!” she said. He stood up; then she stood and gave him a weak punch. She crumbled back onto the floor in tears after realizing she could do nothing but cry.
Adius picked Daikashu up and set her on the bed. “I think you need some sleep. In the morning, we will discuss the wedding.” Daikashu was too tired to even hear what he had said. Soon she was in a deep dreamless sleep.
Daikashu woke a few hours later with tears still in her eyes. She got out of the bed and walked to the door. It was unlocked this time, so she opened it and stepped out. She found herself in a very long, dark hallway. “Jeez, he’s probably going to jump out and scare me again!” she said to herself. She was feeling a little better than before and decided to go in search of him. She would sit and listen to everything he wanted to say to her. Daikashu found her way to the living room but he wasn’t there. So she walked out one of the doors that was in the room, and found that it led to the kitchen. He was not there either. Daikashu made her way back to the long hallway. She looked in each of the doors along its length. “Adius! I’m ready to listen!” she shouted as she walked down the hall. She continued to look in room after room. “Only one left now.”
Daikashu opened the door, and jumped. He was right there, like he was about to walk out. “Why didn’t you come when I called you? I am willing to listen now.” She stepped aside to let him out of his room. “Okay, let’s go to the living room” he said quietly. Daikashu smiled sweetly at him. “Okay.” They both walked down the hall saying nothing to each other. When they were about to the living room, Adius turned around and kissed Daikashu on the lips. Daikashu’s eyes widened but she did nothing. The kiss had the taste of an addictive poison. She kissed him back hungrily. She had no clue what had come over her, but she couldn’t pull away. Adius finally broke the kiss then smiled at her. “I knew you would come round,” He said with a very soft smile on his face. She smiled awkwardly “um, huh” was all she could manage to say. They reached the living room and Adius sat down.
“Daikashu, we have to talk about our wedding! Tell me about your dream wedding?” He stared at her intently. “Uh… Since when did I agree to this?” She had a slightly frantic look upon her face. When did I agree to getting married? When did he purpose to me? She asked herself. “Well… Last night!” he said. “I did?” Daikashu didn’t remember much from the night before. “Did you drug me?” she asked with a hint of suspicion in her voice. “Then again, why did I kiss him this morning? I’ve wanted to kill him for so long… what happened to that feeling?”
Daikashu was to busy thinking as he started talking to her again. “So, would you like a red dress? Maybe a midnight purple one to mach you beautiful hair?” By this time he figured out she was not listening. “Or maybe puke green, or… I might just have a naked wedding.” Daikashu still was not paying attention; Adius started laughing at her. He waved his right hand in front of her face. “Are you even paying me any mind?” he laughed again.
Daikashu jerked at his movements and looked at him. “Huh? What were we talking about?” Adius was lying on the floor by now from laughing. Daikashu looked at him puzzled. “Why are you laughing so hard?” Adius stood up and fixed his clothes. “You should probably work on not spacing off.” Daikashu’s cheeks turned crimson. “I, uh… was thinking.” Adius smiled. “I know… I could read your mind. I’m a vampire. Remember?” Daikashu’s face turned an even brighter red. “I-I forgot” she stammered. “Wait… if he can… I can; can’t I?” “No,” he answered. “I’m a vampire! Why can’t I?” She stared into his eyes waiting for an answer. ”Well, you are not pure bred. Both my mother and father were full vampires,” he replied. Daikashu sighed. “That’s just not fair!” She pulled her hair back and placed it on her right shoulder. The scars from Adius’ bite could now be seen. “So, that was from me?” he said, while touching them lightly with the tips of his fingers. “Yeah…” she cringed. “They never stop hurting. Oh…by the way...” She turned around and smacked him hard across the face, making a hand-print appear. “That’s payback.”
Daikashu giggled as Adius rubbed the side of his face. “Didn’t even feel it,” he announced with a smirk placed across his face. Daikashu laughed out loud. “You are really annoying, do you know that? Why don’t you go look in the mirror!” She stood up and walked out of the room. Adius soon fallowed her. He walked into the bathroom and looked at his face.
There were four scratches going across his right cheek, when she had hit him on the left cheek. “What in the..? How did you manage that?” he said as he grabbed a tissue and placed it on his cheek. “It’s a little thing I figured out about being a vampire; right after I smacked you on your left cheek, I scratched your right. Because I’m so fast from training, it seemed as though I just smacked you. This goes to prove that a girl’s smack hurts worse than pretty much anything.” Daikashu smiled then walked out of the bathroom, satisfied.
“Hey! Training? What for?” Adius fallowed her. Daikashu turned around, her head only coming up to his neck. “To kill you,” she whispered softly. Adius looked at her, his eyes where soft. He wrapped his arms around her slender body and held her in a strong yet loving embrace. “Tell me, why do you love me?” she said. Adius was a little surprised by the question. “Well, um…” “Why do women always have to ask this question?” he thought. “Well, let’s start from the beginning."

Adius laughed with a young girl who sat next to him at the bar. "You’re cute!" he said with a slurred voice. It was clear that they were both drunk. "Hi! My name is Momiji" she repeated. "I know, you told me already!" Adius snorted when he laughed this time. "Oh? Did I?" Momiji scratched her head acting like she was thinking. "Well, I should get home… Whoa!" Momiji fell and landed on her face. As she stood, Adius grabbed her by the arm and helped her up. "I'll help you to your car." He stammered forward as Momiji put her weight onto him.
"Oh, I wonder how Daikashu is doing. It's not good for me to be here, but I need a way to escape her father’s death and the hurt I see in her eyes everyday when I wake." She rested her head on his shoulder and her hair fell to one side showing her bare neck. "Sometimes, I don't know what to do." Momiji went on; but Adius was keeping his gaze on her neck. "We should go..." Adius shook his head slightly and smiled. "Okay" Momiji replied. They walked to the car and stood outside of it. "Do you want to end the pain?" he said running his fangs across her neck. "Sometimes..." she replied. With that, he sunk his fangs into her neck and a little stream of blood slid down her neck onto her shoulder. "Thank you..." Momiji said with a single tear falling from her cheek onto her red car. "Take care of Dai..." her voice trailed off as she became weak. He pulled his teeth from her neck. “You have to see her once more, before you’re gone.” Adius said letting her go and climbing into the backseat of the car.
A few moments later the two passengers turned down the road that led to Momiji’s house. As they did, she saw Daikashu run down the driveway to meet her. Adius saw her as well, along with another young girl. “Your daughter is beautiful.” he said half to himself. Momiji parked the car and got out; then Adius stepped out of the car. Momiji stood in the cool night air as the girls ran up to her; she turned to face them. Then Adius grabbed a hold of Emichi. "Hi sweetie..."

Momiji whispered and then collapsed. Daikashu was to busy trying to get Emichi away from Adius to notice.
"So yeah... when I first saw you I thought you where the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I never was intending on killing you, but you ran and I had to catch you...” “By now you would have been so much older,” he thought. “I did not want you to die….but then your eyes turned white, you would have killed me? I couldn't have that happen because I had promised your mother I would take care of you... so I made you a vampire. I'm very sorry."
By this time Daikashu's eyes where full of tears as she clung to Adius' neck. "If only I knew." she whispered "If only..." Adius’ eyes widened as he felt a sharp pain spread throughout his back. “W-what?” he stammered. “It’s too late for love.” Daikashu said as she stood; her hands and dagger were covered with his blood. “Do you think your love could ever replace what you stole from me? I will never see them again! You have turned me into something that is from hell, and when I die, again, thanks to you, that’s where I’ll go.” A silent tear slid down Adius’ cheek as he took his remaining breath. With this Daikashu tossed her dagger down and sunk to the floor. As she sat there starring at his lifeless body, she realized “This is what it is like to truly be alone…”
