The Thoughts and Feelings of OuEstLaCraie
A place for thoughts, ramblings, and reflections; a sort of blog, if you will, where I'll share the daily drudgery of my life, the fun things I do with friends, and any random ideas I have for rolling around in my noggin. Enjoy : )
Football Game *shudder*
All right, second journal entry of the day! Anywho, this one is about last Friday night, and the events at one West Babylon Junior High School football field. You see, I play flute in the marching band, so we play at all the home games. Ya know, Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America in the beginning, "jock jams" (music EVERYBODY knows, or at least recognizes) throughout the game, school fight song whenever we score (which isn't often), a half-time show. The usual.
But on Friday, October 13th, some, well, let's say interesting things happened. We got to the school at six, the game began at seven, and we marched out to play our opening music (which seems to get suckier every time we play it). Then we went into the stands, got all excited when our team scored our first (last, and only) touchdown, and played the fight song. One of our players got injured, and had to be carted off the field on a stretcher, and it was all downhill from there.
The team we were opposing, East Islip, didn't even take a knee when our player was hurt, which pissed off a LOT of people. Then, after two quarters of anxiously awaiting it, half-time arrived. Ugh. We went out there, did Part 1 of "The Incredibles" (our half-time show), which was considerably better than the last time we performed. And then there was Part 2. Which sucked a**.
Anyway, we went back into the cafeteria to change out of our uniforms and into our polo shirts and jeans, and then had some pizza (courtesy of the WB Music Parents). Eventually, we went back outside, and there were cop cars speeding into the parking lot, ambulances around...and we had no freakin' clue what the hell was going on.
Somehow, we had missed the third quarter, and were seated back in the stands by the beginning of the fourth. With two minutes left, Meadows (the marching band director) started telling us to get up and leave the stands. Now, this is strange, because we usually play "The Final Countdown" at one minute, so, naturally, a girl walking next to me asked Meadows what was going on. The teacher replied, in a strained, trying-to-keep-calm way, "Just get back to the cafeteria. Now."
So, we did. And we were all still COMPLETELY clueless about what the hell was going on. Then Meadows tells us we're not allowed to leave unless our parents come get us, and we were sure we had a ride. Ugh. So I called my dad, explained to him (to the best of my ability) this latest development, then talked with some friends. One of my band buddies said she'd overheard Meadows tell someone's parents that "the safety of this band is more important than playing the last two minutes." Esh. Another friend found out that someone on the East Islip side (i'm assuming a parent, friend, or fan) had threatened to beat us up. Yes, all of us. The freakin' BAND GEEKS for Christ's sake!
But nonetheless, the threat had (apparently) been made, and that's what caused all the strangeness. After that, I saw my friend, Katie (who had her own story to tell...check it out in Scorn-san's Journal, if you care to know more), and we waited outside together for our respective parental units. But, my dad showed up first, and felt bad just leaving her, so we gave her a ride home, chatting about the night's events. The one word to sum that Friday the 13th up is...interesting. But, luckily, no one in the band (as far as I know) was hurt, and the football game was pretty fun to watch. I guess you've just gotta take the bad with the good, right?
