Today in school, we had an assembly called "Rachel's Challenge." Before going into it, all I knew was that it was about some girl who died in the Columbine shooting back in 1999. I assumed that it would be some stupid movie, or some person giving an hour-long speech about it. But it turned out to be so much more.
"Rachel's Challenge" was a presentation given by Rachel Scott's sister, Dana Scott. Yes, she did talk about Columbine, and a little about what happened that day and the two young men who committed the shooting, but it was more about Rachel, and how she wanted to help others. She believed in starting a "chain reaction" of kindness, here only a kind word or hug could make someone's day ten times better. At the end, Dana challenged us to five different things: eliminate prejudice, dare to dream, choose your influences, kind words, and start a chain reaction. We accepted these challenges by signing a banner at school, and also by going to their website. Rachel's story really inspired me. Sure, it was sad, but it really touched my heart, and I plan on carrying out all these things.
