When it comes to fanfiction and fanart, many like to create their own Sayian Original Characters. However, not all of them have names that make sense. Sometimes it’s usually explained away, such as they were raised in in another world or another universe where they were given another name to go by. Usually to hide their true identity or they were a baby and wouldn’t have known what their birth name was. Unless their parents left a message or there was something with the OC’s name written on it.
OCs that don’t have an legit Saiyan pun name are completely fine as long as there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for it. I mention this because it’s kinda annoying when there isn’t an good reason for an OC to have such a normal ‘human name’ or a ‘real world’ name. For example, I’m suppose to believe that an OC that is a year or two younger/older than Prince Vegeta IV is called something like Prince/Princess Alex? Or that an OC that is Bulma’s other sibling doesn’t have an undergarment themed name like the rest of their family?
It’s a bit annoying to come across names like that. It just pulls me out of the story because of how ill-fitting they are with the rest of the universe of Dragon Ball series. Of course, that only happens when there isn’t a good reason for the OC to have such a name. I know it’s a minor issue compare to other things, but it doesn’t hurt to put in a little bit of effort to make them believable. All stories are a lot more enjoyable when a reader doesn’t have to pause in disbelief. It can be distracting and ruin the flow of the story whenever that happens.
I figured it would be helpful for everyone if I made a list of pun names for OCs. I will be focusing mostly on Saiyans since that’s the race most people want to go with when creating an OC. But do keep in mind that if you’re doing OCs for other races, such as Namekians and so on, they too follow a name pattern.
Speaking of which, Namekians are named after Slugs and Snails, except for Piccolo and his offspring who are named after instruments. The Briefs family are all named after Underwear. Majins are named after Magical words, such as stereotypical magic incantations (i.e. Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo from Cinderella). Every named member of the Red Ribbon Army is named after a color, except for a few such as Dr. Gero who was named after a machine part called a ‘gear’. Garlic Jr.’s henchmen are named after condiments and spices.
Henchman of the Planet Trade Organization are named after fruits, with only the most elite warriors (Ginyu Force and Cooler's Squadron) being named after different food items. Those with dairy product names are in the Ginyu Force and salad dressing names are used for Cooler's Squad. Freeza's family (and the rest of his race) are all named after things that are cold. While the Gods of Destruction and their Angel attendants are named after alcoholic beverages.
Each of the inhabitants of certain Universes are named after different things: Universe 11 are named after kitchen appliances, Universe 9 are named after herbs, Universe 2 are named after meat, Universe 3 are named after Italian food, Universe 4 are also named after herbs, and Universe 10 are named after elements of the periodic table.
Saiyan Names
As I said before, Saiyan names are all puns on vegetable names. Some of the puns only work in Japanese. While others are sometimes anagrams or the vegetable names in another language. I tried to avoid using names that have already appeared in the series and in other canon material. But there’s a limited amount of vegetables one can use, which is why there are some alternative spelling of those names included in the list too.

Earthling-Saiyan Hybrids Names
There aren’t that many hybrids around, but from what I’ve gather their name depends on their parents. They’re either named after the same naming theme from their mother’s side of the family or their father’s. Or if you’re lucky, you might find a name that is fitting for both family name themes.
For example: Pan refers to the Japanese word パン which means ‘bread’, continuing the food-based names of Gohan's family. Coincidentally, Pan is also the name of a god from the Ancient Greek mythology. At times Pan is associated with the Devil because he has legs (and, sometimes, horns and ears) of a goat. Thus, Pan's name also continues the family naming traditions of her mother (Videl = Devil) and grandfather (Mr. Satan). Pan could also refer to pan pipes, an instrument often attributed to said Greek deity, thus making the name a tribute to Piccolo as well.
Below is some ideas of possible names that could be used for Half-Saiyans or Quarter Saiyans. They’re mostly food related names. So far, I haven’t seen any of them used in the series, but that could change in the future.
Omuretsu (or Amelett or Omeleta) - Omelette, but if you choose Amelett it'd also be a pun for the word Amulet (a trinket or piece of jewelry usually hung about the neck and thought to be a magical charm against evil or mischief, such as diseases, witchcraft, etc.) since they both sound similar.
Kesadiya (or Kasedeye or Keisedije) - Quesadillas
Sutoroganofu (or Strga) - Stroganoff
Borushichi - Borscht
Kinoa (or Kinwa) - Quinoa
Kanerroni (or Kanelone) - Cannelloni
Guakamore (or Gwakemol) - Guacamole
Fumusu - Hummus
Furitta - Fritters
Kanori (or Kenole) - Cannoli
Borage - This is a two in one pun. Most people will think it’s related to Porridge (a food commonly eaten as a breakfast cereal dish). However, Borrage, also known as starflower is a plant (a medicinal herb with edible leaves and flowers).
Supagetti (or Spegede or Spageti or Hetti) - Spaghetti
Rabiori (or Raveole) - Ravioli
Tate - Another two in one pun name. This works for Tater Tots and for the masculine given name or nickname, Tate, which has the meaning of ‘cheerful’.
Farufarre (or Falle) - Farfalle
Keki (or Kaykee or Kekee or Kake) - Keki is the word Cake in Japanese. It’s also a Hawaiian given name derived from Keiki, which means ‘child’. Coincidentally, Keiki is also a Japanese given name that has different meanings depending on the kanji used. For example, the Japanese 慶 (kei) meaning ‘celebrate’ combined with 樹 (ki) ‘tree; plant’ or combined with 貴 (ki) meaning ‘valuable’ or 紀 (ki) meaning ‘chronicle’. On the other hand, if you use Kake, because it sounds like Cake it’s also a given name. It has Maori origins with the meaning of ‘to arise or climb’.

Chea (or Chiyah) - This is another pun with more than one meaning. It’s base on Chia, which is a plant of the mint family with clusters of small two-lipped purple flowers. It’s well known for its edible protein-packed chia seeds. But as a given name it means ‘a thousand nights’ in Japanese and ‘summer’ in Chinese. It’s also the Spanish variation of Lucia.

Tourutieru (or Toortyer) - Tourtière

Chizubaga (or Chezberɡer or Xhezberg) - Cheeseburger

Buri (or Bree) - Is a pun on Brie, a ripened soft, white cheese made in France. As a given name it has the meaning of ‘marshland’. Sometimes it is used as a nickname for names like Brianne, Brianna or even Gabrielle.
Shunittsueru (or Shnitsel) - Schnitzel
Kisshu (or Kesh) - Quiche
Shutouruderu (or Strol) - Strudel
Rye - Not only refers to the grain used for making flour and whiskey. But it’s also used as a given name with a meaning of ‘island meadow’. Rye is also a version of Ryan, which has Irish and Gaelic origins. Ryan is an anglicization of the Irish surname Ó Ríain, meaning ‘descendant of the little king.’

Beguru - Bagel
Sharotto (or Sharlet or Charlot or Xharott) - Is a two in one pun of Charlotte which is a baked dessert served hot or cold, commonly made with fruit and layers or a casing of bread or cake crumbs, sponge cake, etc. It is also used as a given name since it’s the feminine form of Charles, meaning ‘free man’ or ‘petite’.

But Madeleine is also a feminine given name from Magdalene, which is well known name because of Mary Magdalene. Additionally, in German, Madelein means ‘little girl’.
