	Some people see tis day as a day of reckoning, Satan's birthday, bad omens ... no good. But Chinese people might see it differently. Some actualy see today as a good day to get hitched, married, tying the nuptial knot, or some guys say "the old ball and chain of life". In a chinese dialect, 6 is actually promounced as "luck". So three sixes is like TRIPLE the "luck". There's a saying, "All good things come in threes." "Luck ... luck ... luck! Today!" Today's Tuesday. Just another day. Come and go. Nothing special. Hrmm ... I wonder how busy is the Registry of Marriages today? update : I just watched the news today. Wow ... a lot. Usually only at most 50 couples register a day ... today ... 310+!!!! Wah! My desk ... slowly moving in and personalising my desk. But if they really let me go crazy you'll see photos stuck everywhere hahaa.

That day meant so much more to me than just a number. for me it was a day of goodbyes and new beginnings. It was the day myself and many of my childhood friends parted ways, to go on to better things. I graduated that day, and it is a day will never forget. cry

666 is my day.........sorry......but hey, i agree.Nothing special did happen that day besides hanging out with my friends who believe in this day as well, but some idiots kept saying "its not 666!Its 6606!" which i thought was pretty gay..

One thing I'm not sure of, I think 666 is superstitious for Chinese people too? You said that in a certain dialect, it can be pronounced with the same tone as "luck." In another dialect however, it's pronounced almost the same as "Hell." So it wasn't exactly a happy, lucky day for lots of Chinese people. rofl

I totally agree. I'm not one of those people who are all like, "Oooh, I'll bring my cross to school and a rabbit's foot". That's just weird and paranoid. ^^ I like to think of it either as: a) A normal day, or b) A lucky day.

6 isn't pronounced as luck, it means luck

66 (double) six is for luck.

Actually 666, isn't really the devils number and anyways its just a bunch of crap the church takes waaaaaaay to seriousely. Seriousely.
I mean I think it was actually 616 that's the symbol of the Devil, but it could really be anything, and who knows what it really symbolizes. The church is just over sensitive and try to use this crap to freak their followers out.

sweatdrop well i dont know what the # 6 means in Chinese or in any other country but in Vietnamese it has the same spelling and meaning for ugly and bad lucK(sometimes)...its like one of those words that has lots of meanings like "orange" the fuit and "orange" the color, for thoes who dont know what im talking about... 3nodding well, i just wanted to add this little informations. sweatdrop

The Chinese dialect she's referring to is Hokkien, it's one of the main languages spoken in Singapore (where my roots lie 3nodding ). The number 6 in Hokkien is pronounced as 'lak', which sounds almost exactly like the English word 'luck'.

The marriage registry thing doesn't surprise me at all though - Chinese people seem to love 'pretty' numbers. I wonder how many will be getting married on 08/08/2008 (8 is another one of those 'lucky' numbers, it supposedly symbolises wealth and/or fortune in Chinese culture).

yeah, the whole 666 thing turned out to be a bust. from what I've heard, it came from a prophet who had a dream about the number 666 referring to fallen angels, but whatever. some say it was actually 999, not 666. some remember 616.

Also, something a little different - from when I took karate, they made us learn to count in japanese. 6 was written in roman characters as "roku". If you know anything about japanese, though, "r" and "l" are the same character and same sound, so it could also be looked at as "loku", and in quick conversation a lot of japanese like to shorten (or drop) the "u" sound at the end of some words, so it ends up soundling like "lok" (examples are "roku" and "desu" wink , which is the closest they can get to "luck".
...just found that interesting.

that would depend on the dialect... I'm Chinese and we have different dialects... for hokkien yes it's pronounced as luck... for cantonese it's pronounced as "lok" and for mandrin it's lio... erm... it's complicated because there's stuff like pin yin and crap... xd and these are the main dialects there are many more... but for chinese the best numbers are 6 and 8... 8 is for cantonese and 6 for hokkien...

You're correct about the six thing. ((I was in China for 2 weeks last summer)) But did you know that 4 means "Die" and showing four fingers up is the same as shooting the middle finger?
