No matter what anime convention you go to, one of the most important aspects you have to plan out is what you’re going to eat. We are humans and in order to function we’ll need food to fuel us. So what you need to figure out first is if you’re going to bring food from home to the convention. Or are you going to put away some money to buy takeout (like pizza, Chinese food, etc.) or go to a nearby restaurant? If not then maybe you’re going to buy food at the convention’s food court?
But chances are you’re going with the cheaper (and sometimes easier) alternative since conventions are pretty expensive. It would be cheaper for you to bring your own food from home to the convention.
Many hotels provide modern conveniences in the rooms, such as a refrigerator, a coffee machine and a microwave. If not be sure to check with your hotel if your room contains them. If they don’t then try and request them. If you’re lucky you’ll have a room that has all those things, even a stove!
If you’re not lucky to have any of those conveniences than everything you bring to eat must be non-perishable, without requiring heat. That means no ramen, unless you know for a fact that the hotel room at least has a coffee maker.
Anyway, lets say you know that your room will have a microwave or a coffee machine or maybe even a stove. Here are some quick and easy (and not necessarily healthy) meals that you can make with them.
Ramen
Spaghetti (or any other pasta)
Baked Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Hot Dogs
Rice and Beans
Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Mexican Bean Burrito
Quesadillas
Oatmeal/Porridge
Nachos
Canned Soup
Canned Vegetables
Hot Pockets
Easy Mac
Easy Hamburger Helper
Totino’s Pizza Bites
Mini Pizza Begals
Microwave Dinners
Chicken Nuggets
Popcorn
If you have nothing to heat up your food here are some items that you should bring. Just remember that they are mostly snacks and shouldn’t be rely on as a meal. They’re only good to eat in between meals, which is a great way to add to your nutrient intake during the day. Also sometimes the hotel offers free ice and if you bring a cooler you can create your own mini refrigerator. That is a great way to bring food already made and that can be eaten cold.
Beef/Turkey Jerky
Dried Fruits
Nutrigrain Bars/Protein Bars
Trail Mix Bars
Whole Grain Crackers or Cracker Crisps
Pretzels
Fruits (such as Oranges and Apples)
Chips
Peanut Butter Sandwich
Tuna Sandwich
Crackers and Cheese
Pita Bread with Hummus
Tijuana Torta
Black Bean Salsa
Salads
Chicken Tomato Wrap Sandwich
Don’t forget to bring something to drink, especially water! But if you tend to get tired of water or just want to mix it up here are some healthy options other than sodas.
V8 Cans
Gatorade/Powerade
Tea
Hot Chocolate
Orange Juice
Flavor Water Packets
Lastly, be sure to bring items that you might need or can’t get at the hotel. Such as seasoning for your food if you plan to make something with flavor. Paper or plastic plates, utensil (fork, spoon, knife, etc), napkins, plastic bag or a plastic container to store food away if there’s leftovers.
