Sick
A childhood story
It was just a cold, nothing more. Harmless enough that Lily could take care of it herself.
Yet, bad enough she had to stay inside.
The small elf scowled childishly as she peered through the window, still clad in her tiny pajamas. Really, her parents were so paranoid. She gets sick just once, and they make her stay inside.
Lily hated staying inside. It was always a bit more stuffier, and you could explore all of it twice yet still be bored. What fun was exploring your own house, after all?
There wasn't anyone in the house either, so Lily couldn't even talk to someone. Mother was off chattering with Auntie Freya and the other elven women.
Lily didn't understand the whole 'just talking' thing. What fun was talking if you weren't doing something that you could talk about? Like if you were climbing a cliff, you could yell 'watch out for that rock!', and then have a conversation about how that rock almost killed the person you were warning.
Groaning, she turned away from the window, deciding that she might as well read some of the books her mother hid from her. Lily didn't know too many words at age seven, but she figured if she kept on reading them, she would eventually understand.
She sighed as she pulled up a chair to reach the huge shelf in her mother's room. Lily wasn't allowed there too often, either. She couldn't help wondering why, but guessed it was because her mom was secretly a super hero, and that Lily wasn't supposed to find her super-hero stuff.
""SURPRISE!""
The sudden unfamiliar yell made Lily wobble on the stool. "W-Woah!" In a clumsy moment Lily tripped, and her eyes snapped shut, waiting for pain.
Instead she felt herself land in a pair of arms. Confused, the sick little elf looked up to see the grinning face of Ray looking down on her. Little Jinx was next to him, giggling.
"We scared you~" Ray teased as he helped his best friend up. Jinx laughed, nodding in agreement.
"Sissy Lily is so clumsy~!Like a newborn deer!" The smaller girl exclaimed. Ray snickered in agreement.
On any other day, Lily would protest. But being bored out of her mind made the seven year old rather grateful. With a wide grin she wrapped her arms around her two friends, all of them beginning to chatter at once.
Maybe her mother was getting at something with this whole 'talking and not doing anything' thing.
