Name: Qualius Schmerz (Formerly Qualius Farynor)

Birthdate: September 2, 1666; Appears to be about 26-27

Race: 50% Human, 50% Demon

Powers:
Manipulation of Pain – Qualius’ demonic energy takes an electric-like form, and when it comes into contact with another being, causes them much pain. He is able to compress this energy into cartridges that fit into a pistol. This pistol is used mostly as a modern tazer would, firing bullets made entirely out of his electrical energy. Not only does he wield a hand pistol, but if a fight is difficult, he can transform his pistol into a rifle, and if in a serious situation, into a bazooka. There are ten varieties of these bullets, numbered according to their strength/specialty;
1 – Weakest
2 – Used for animals
3– Used for humans
4 – Used for stunning/paralyzing, nonfatal
5 – Used for combat, can be fatal if enough shots are delivered
6 – Stronger form of 5
7 – Used for his rifle, stronger form of 5/6
8- Used for youkai/demons, used in his rifle
9 – Used in his bazooka, causes a small explosion upon impact with target
10 – Strongest bullet, used for serious combat

He may also summon his energy through his own hands, but it is harder to control and less direct using this method. Despite manipulating pain, Qualius cannot feel it. Because of this and the fact he is half-demon, he usually takes most hits since he doesn’t feel the pain, and since most attacks aren’t fatal to him. If he lets himself be hit too much, he will experience severe blood loss and will weaken until he’s unconscious. Since he is a half-demon, he can take the form of a demon. He manipulates pain, so his demon form is a combination of many famous pain-causing animals: The body and head of a taipan, the fangs of a bullet ant, the quills of a porcupine, the venom of a blowfish (in the quills), the rough skin of a shark, the stinger of a stingray, the stingers of a tarantula hawk wasp, and the tentacles of an irukandji jellyfish (located on the tail). However, taking this form takes a high toll on his human body. After going into his true form, he could be incapacitated for weeks, and during that time, experience excruciating pain. He has only used this form once.

Personality: Qualius is extremely quiet, and he speaks in short sentences. Much as how he has a high tolerance of pain, he has a high tolerance of annoying things, too, especially if Vireas is acting up. (Mallorya appears to be an exception, however.) He is extremely loyal towards Vireas, obeying most of everything said by him. However, he rarely fulfills the requests of anyone else. In one word, he can be described as “Numb”, in that he doesn’t feel pain, and in that nothing seems to mentally affect him. He shows little interest in things, and rarely expresses lots of emotion, or in other words, highly apathetic. Part of this is because he rarely sleeps, and is often very tired. (After he’s slept, he becomes slightly more sharp and alert. Right before he’s about to sleep, he becomes much more talkative than usual.) He does have a somewhat soft side, however. Sometimes, he’ll prepare breakfast for everyone in the hideout without being requested to. Another situation which he displayed some kindness is when he, Mallorya, and Muslottei were in a city during winter; As they rested, the two girls became cold, so he gave them both his blankets and coat. He also hates it when people go out of their way for him. A prime example of this is during his birthday, where he becomes extremely stressed. It’s mostly because of the stupid antics of the members of Pathogenesis, however. He is deathly afraid of Amanita, and since their first encounter has formed a habit of kicking mushrooms.

History: When he was in his mother’s womb, his mother was cursed by a demon, resulting in him being born as a half-demon. On Earth, he was born in London, England in the bakery/home of Thomas Farynor. He caused the Great Fire of London, and was orphaned after his parents fled without him. He was adopted by a German couple, who then migrated to Altearth through a portal. As a child, he was unusually tall and extremely strong despite his age, causing him to be socially unaccepted by his peers. Suspicion grew as he aged very slowly, still looking like an 8 year old when 20 years had passed by, and by the fact the child never seemed to sleep. One day, Qualius was doing chores and was slapped by a child, and his energy burst out in a sudden shock that killed the child. A villager spotted it, and they proceeded to stone him. This emotional outburst within him activated his more violent demon powers, and he unintentionally burst into his true form, destroying the village and killing most of the population. He left the village, thinking he also killed his parents, and wandered aimlessly for about 275 years. During his wandering years, he lived in a city, adopting the physical characteristics of policemen and businessmen, wearing a buttoned coat and using a gun, as well as slicking back his hair and wearing glasses. One day, an epidemic of yellow fever spread, and Qualius hadn’t gotten infected. Vireas appeared before him, and after a long struggle, failed to kill Qualius. Vireas offered Qualius a home if he would serve him and join Pathogenesis. Qualius agreed, and he lived in Vireas’ hideout from then on. Presently, he accompanies Mallorya and Muslottei when they go to spread epidemics, acting as a bodyguard so that they don’t fail their missions.

Other: He has a strong fondness for coffee, mainly because it makes him feel less tired. In particular, his favorite coffee is espresso. When he’s stressed or depressed, he often visits coffee shop to engorge in a coffee binge. Vireas prohibits alcoholic drinks (since alcohol kills germs), so he drinks coffee to the point where he’s so caffeinated that his speech can’t be understood. During his time on caffeine high, he becomes much more awake and blathers about coffee. However, after that has worn off, he becomes incredibly tired and extremely irritable. Usually the night after a coffee binge, he is able to sleep perfectly. That is another reason why he drinks coffee. He also loves donuts, often accompanying them with coffee. His greatest pet peeve is when someone takes his glasses (usually Mallorya). When startled (which is very rarely), he makes a hissing sound akin to a snake.

Favorite Food: Coffee (Most particularly espresso), Donut
