we all know it well
the little things that give us peace
and bring us solace
the feeling of emptiness after
blankly staring into your soul
trying to read your mind
no one knows
the addiction of it
for it is only yours
the secret garden
keeps you intact
with your body
to keep a facade
that will never be penetrated
known so well
yet a complete stranger
put on your mask
for the masquerade begins
dancing with other strangers
who hide their addiction
yet they all play along
because the truth isn't a show
it's the reality of their world
of your world
the ball lasts for decades
for it is an eternal dance
that everyone attends
to hide their addiction
