The Dance
I stood in the corner
Just wearing casual
Not like the other ones
In skirts/skinnys or tank tops
Just the usual jeans and t-shirt
The music pounded in my ears
One of my favorite songs
I watched everyone get together on the dance floor
Each with their partner
Amidst the throng i spotted my friend
Dancing like there's no tomorrow
I smiled encouragingly
I saw you walk in
I met your eyes
But you looked way
And went with her
I sat down on my knees
Feeling a hole rip through me
I wanted to share this song with you
But you had eyes for someone else
As usual...
I slowly stood up
Why did i come...
What was the point...
Maybe it'd be different?
Who was i kidding...
Good guys always finish last...
If they finish at all...
I looked at my friend
She wouldn't even know i was gone...
I looked at you
But you were lost in her eyes.
I walked through all the throng
And broke out by the door
I looked back once more
Before taking my leave...
That's why i never went to social events...
Because I always regret it...
