Rob began the sermon today with a funny story about how his dog would trample inside the brand new house with muck all over her fur and try and ruin the brand new carpet and furniture.
I could relate very well to pastor Rob's story connection today, because I have a dog too.
More than often, my dog Duke will rush inside head over heels and prance about the house wet from our pond, muddy from the rain, or stinking from a conbination of who knows what. I immediately yell at him and tell him to "heel" as fast as possible, because I don't want the carpet ruined or my bed to be stinking wet from this filthy dog.
But we must learn to accept, muck and all, even when we may get a little dirty in the process. I sometimes just leave Duke outside to wait, until either someone else does the cleaning or I am forced to dry him off. But instead of doing this, I should accept him with open arms, much like Jesus accept us into His arms, getting dirty himself in the process.
Jesus accepts us for who we are, and I think everyone can agree with me when I say that we are all very filthy in our own ways, inside more than out.
Today in Sunday school we were told to not just run through the motions of worshipping and praising Jesus, but to do it with our hearts. You can always clean the cup on the outside but the inside can remain stained and tainted with fake worship that Jesus actually considers a sin.
He tells us that he would rather have us not worship him at all than to do it with a fake heart and fake desire. "Running through the motions" is not what we want people! To truly submit yourself to the love and praise of your savior is all He asks for, and yes it is a very foolish life. ^^ We are believing in Him, we are donating to Him, we are loving Him and awaiting the day of His return. Truly this is a foolish life, but I hope you live it with heart, and obeidiently go to His side with a wagging tail. ^^
