Bits of Addy
Random wanderings - what I'm dealing with, what's getting me frustrated, what I'm working on (and the progress reports just in case you care) and other stuff that might change from day to day that I just don't feel like putting my sig.
Fifth o' Many: Family and the uses thereof
It is said that your parents brought you into this world, and they can take you out of it. How nice it is when they decide to actually help you stick around and put some meat on those bones.

That, my dears, is a picture of me fam. My dad is the salt-and-peppered gent, I'd be the young twerp who looks like she's sixteen (but racked as all hell *sigh*) my brother is the mophead that looks like some sort of idiot goblin, and the other two are my ex-husband, and my stepmother (who isn't evil at all).

My father visited me today. He lives approximately 60 miles south of me, as I enjoy the benefits of scholastic endeavor (ie being a po' college student). With himself and his usual questions (you need anything? Gas money? Rent money? You ever going to come down and visit your dog?) he brought something new.

Food.

9 pounds of oatmeal. Breakfast, huzzah, huzzah.
15 boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. This is not the cheap stuff four boxes a dollar stuff I am used to. I tingled a little, I won't lie.
10 cans of Starkist Tuna. Again, not the cheap four cans a dollar stuff I'm used to.
A box of Pop Secret Popcorn. I don't even buy this. Holy luxury batman.
10 pounds of sugar. That will keep me in a LOT of Kool Aide.
20 pounds of flour. Because not long ago, Daddy also gave me a bread machine. I haven't bought a loaf of bread in six months, my darlings.

Now, in about three day's time, my mother is planning a trip up to visit her sweet non-angel of a daughter. I know a supper will be bought. Dare I hope for some actual groceries, in which I may supplement my shelves with such necessities as:

Hamburger and Tuna Helper - to go with all those cans of tuna dad bought me and the SEVERAL pounds of ground hamburger I got in the divorce?
Frozen dinners - in the form of Totino's Party Pizzas and Green Giant frozen pasta thingums which are very tasty?
Campbell's Chunky Soup - to warm me when those cold South Dakota nights blow in?
And... dare I dream of it... b33r? Hey, folks, it could happen. I'm of age, after all.

*sigh* Yes indeed. You certainly can tell how hungry I am. Perhaps if I wasn't also so lazy, I'd pop into the kitchen, wash the necessary pots and pans, and make myself some dindin. Or pop downstairs and walk the thirty feet to the Subway that beckons me so... Either way, I must do something soon, for my third most favorite movie of all time will be on at 7! Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, featuring Tim Roth, Gary Oldman, and ... um... Mr. Holland.... Richard Dreyfuss! Truly, that is one I am required to sit and watch, allowing no interval, no distraction save a very important phone call! And so my dears, in search of food, I depart.
