Wow! I am in the zone with reviewing new shows! First Demetri Martin, then Krod Mandoon, and now, Sit Down, Shut Up!
If you're anything like me, you watched Animation Domination last night. If you don't watch it, or don't even know what it is, Animation Domination is the Sunday-night lineup on Fox for shows like The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, and American Dad.
They decided to move King of the Hill to 6:30 and put Sit Down, Shut Up in its old place.
Sit Down, Shut Up is about an underachieving school that lacks funding.... And intelligent students. The principal is out, and the show starts introducing the new principal (well, they call it "Acting Principal" wink . The show's first introduction of all the characters was actually funny. It showed their catch phrases and stuff. I particularly like the dumb teacher's catch phrase, "I need a catch phrase!" because he says it about everytime he leaves a room.
The characters are well-plotted out, each with a unique personality that blends in well.
For example, the eco-friendly one, the wimpy gym teacher, and all that other stuff!
The voice acting really does make it more funny, how they sometimes pause or change their tones. The actors really seemed to work hard in their voices.
And with those voices goes with a "meh..." script........
You can usually tell when the scriptwriters were trying to make a joke, but about half of them just weren't that funny.
The end of the pilot episode, I must admit though, was well-thought-out by the writers. You see, the whole first episode was about the teachers competing to keep their jobs, because one of them had to get fired. And at the last second of the show, the new principal says who's fired and then the show's over.
So the writers did that so people would want to watch and see what happens! It worked for me! Odds are, I'll be watching this show again next Sunday night!
And if you haven't caught it, you should at least give it a try!
So, overall, Sit Down, Shut Up gets a 8.1 out of 10
