Hey! Im going to start rating different animes and mangas. Darker than Black anime will be my first victim. Click the links and read the story because Im too lazy to explain it myself!
Darker than Black
Story: 5/5
I like how the setting where the Hells Gate and Contractors happen everywhere in the world, not just Japan. I have never seen a story like this before and it actully makes sense rather than having to have these explanations that are made up to justify the characters and plot.
Plot:3/5
The plot goes incredably slow in the anime. As far as Ive watched it, the majority of the shows are filler episodes of Hei doing various jobs and killing other contractors. You olny figure out a little about the actual plot of Hei searchingh for his sister. But as you figure out this info, it makes you want to watch more. But I dont want to go through all these fillers to put the pieces together. I hope that Hei finds out something about his sister so then the plot can focus on it. The main symbology is stars which doesnt have a steriotypical meaning to Hei or other characters. Which I like.
Characters: 4 1/2/5
Hei is a pretty awsome, well designed character. When he is not on the job killing, he acts (or is he?) like some normal college student that is shy, well mannerd, and very kind. But when his true colors show trough when he is in character, he is quite the oposite of that. And also, he's CHINESE. That is AWESOME. As for his design, he is NOT a super girly, super cool, super actractive, doesnt have eyelashes or big colorful pupils, or super popluar which is RARE kind of male character in anime. He is actully quite plain but manly. His fighting outfit is pretty simple and cool, his jacket is bulletproof for some reason, and I dont know where the technology in the anime exists.
His team is the old man, Huang, a talking cat named Mao, and Yin. Huang is mean and crabby and is always insulting Hei and the rest, but hes cool. His character is pretty important and represts the company or whaever that Hei is working for. The cat is cute and fat, its not the sterio typical cat that is found in most animes. Theres not much I can say about Yin because she is the least important in the group, she just locates the targets for Hei then...is never seen agian. (So I wonder why she is the most popular out of the four)
As for other characters, I think they are pretty well designed, so chiched tragic pasts, no cute little school girls, its all GOOD.
Animation:4/5
The fighting sequences are not fancy slidshows ( like in GunSword) they have actual moveents that make you get exicted over whats happening. They actualy animate characters flipping, fighting, falling, its really awesome. But the things that gets me is the UGLY a** COMPUTER MODELED CARS. Whoever designed those cars needs to get fired at Bones.
Manga: 1/5
The manga SUCKS. Bones completely changed the storyline and plot, and I see why. The manga is about a HIGHSCHOOL GIRL who has a TRAGIC PAST WHERE HER PARENTS WHERE KILLED and is TRYING TO FIND HER FATHER WHO MAY BE ALIVE CAUSE SHE SAW HIM ON THE STREET. Then she meets Hei and helps her find him. UGGHHH. The sequences dont make sense and are TOO coincedental. The art is horrible too. This is the first time where I like the anime better than the manga.
OVERALL RATING: 4/5
See the anime for your self! The videos have awesome sound and video quality. Its english sub with Japanese dialoge.
Heres the manga if you really want to see it.
