Millie continued running, sneaking a glance behind her shoulder. They were still following her! She could hear the loud barking of the evil guard dogs, and the hoarse voice of their wicked master. They weren't very far behind.
Her sneakers pounded on the forest floor. As she ran, she tripped over a fallen branch and tumbled into the brush. Quietly and fearfully, she watched as her evil landlord and his dogs passed by and disappeared. In her hands she clutched the book her parents had written about their life, secrets, and adventures. It was the only possession she had left of theirs, for they had perished in a fire not so long ago.
Sighing with relief, she clutched the book to her chest and vanished into the forest.
