Random Rating: The Movies
I'm here with another Random Rating! This time, I'm reviewing the PC game, The Movies!
The Movies came out a while ago, but I know not many people played it......
If you remember the commercials that made it seem so glamourous, then you will like this review! The commercials do not lie. You DO run your own movie studio. You DO hire and manage your employees. And all that other stuff! The game is pretty good, but it's all the little things that keep this game from being better.....
The Movies will require a fairly advanced video card. So if you only have a regular computer meant for keeping files, then this game is basically out of the question. And the upgrade for the video card can be expensive and hard to install....
Another thing about installation...... It takes forever!! You will probably spend a really long time just waiting for it to install..... And it has multiple installation discs, meaning you can't just set it up to install and leave it for a while.... You have to stay with it and put in the next disc when instructed.
And even after you get a video card, the graphics still suck! Often you will find that objects will go through one another (don't say That's what she said!). I mean that if a character is holding a rifle, the graphics will probably make it look like it's going through his face....
The tutorial does help a lot. Since this game has a lot of things to do, taking the tutorial is extremely reccomended.
You can name your studio and choose your studio banner.
Of course, there are rival studios. And every in-game five years (it's not that long at all) there will be an awards ceromony. The studios compete for awards like best actor/actress, best movie, most prestigious lot, etc.
There are a number of employees you can hire. You already have a building to hire builders and janitors at the beginning of the game. You have to hire actors/actresses, directors, and extras for your movies. You must also have a crew. Three or four is what you should have. Later in the game, you can get a laboratory, which will allow you to unlock better movie-making equipment faster. You must hire scientists. And you get a script-writing office, where you hire scriptwriters. And so fourth.
Here are a few of the bad things:
-The whiny announcer... It will often talk for much of your game time, repeating the same words with the exact same tone. I can now mouth EXACTLY like the announcer does whenever it speaks....
-Stars' attitudes... Your stars will get stressed out very quickly, wich will make them wander around avoiding work until you place them yourself on the set they need to be at. And even when they're working it makes the movie quality bad when they're stressed.
-Novelty values... All of your sets have a novelty value. That means how much the public wants to see your sets. It decreases almost instantly to 0%. And your scriptwriters often use sets with the lowest novelty value.... Making your movies... Well..... Suck!
-Lot size... The lot may seem huge at first, but once you start to go, it seems like it is the size of a doghouse eventually..... Most sets are huge and take up a lot of space.

Here are some of the best things:
-The custom-scriptwriting office... I LOVE this feature!!! I spend most of my time on this! You can totally customize a whole movie! You choose who stars, what the costumes are, the name, the genre, and everything about it! You put in or out more extras (actors with usually no speaking part) in the scenes.
-Post Production... Eventually in the game you will unlock Post Production. A building that allows you to add effects to your movies. After being shot, but before being released, drop the movie in the Post Production building and you can add subtitles, cut scenes short, delete scenes, and everything! You can even add your own audio if you have a headset microphone.
-Entourages... If you see people lining up at your studio looking for jobs, but you don't have a place for them, you can add them to any of your stars' entourages! They will become assisstants to any of them! It greatly pleases the stars and adds to their ranking in the charts.
-Paparazzi... Often you will see reporters at the front gates of your studio. You can make them catch your stars in the act of anything, to improve or lower their publicity. They can be photoed doing something as simple as talking, or something as bad as getting drunk behind the set.

So this game is kinda good.... Unless you already have the video card for this game, or you REALLY want to play it, I wouldn't get this.... It is fun and sometimes addictive, but it can be a huge annoyance in the long run...
So, overall, I give The Movies a 6.5 Out of 10
Meh!
