This is a very interesting article on dreams. ((SORRY FOR THE LENGTH EVERYONE!! IF YOU WANT TO JUST CUT TO THE CHASE SKIP TO WHERE IT SAY "IN CONCLUSION"!!!!)) ________________________________________________________________________________ I actually agree with a lot that was said in that article.
Dreams are something that have always fascinated me! Even when I was younger. I've always loved to dream (which is why I spend half of the day sleeping on weekends.) I just never want to stop. (And I actually never do stop!) In my waking hours I'm constantly daydreaming! (And I do mean constantly. Today, I was looking up some dream meanings for a girl in my Alice cult on VampireFreaks. She said she had been having a reoccurring nightmare for the a while, but she usually never has nightmares. I told her to search and look in a dream dictionary, but I saved her the trouble and did it myself because, HEY! I love dreams and their interpretations!
Anyway, I came across this article while looking for interpretations of a reoccurring dream of my own. (I won't bother telling you about it. Unless you ask.) Anyway, this article reminded me of my own takes on dreaming, which I will take this time to explain.
When I was young, I didn't really care what dreams were. I just knew I loved (mostly) them. As I got a little older, I thought that dreams were simply pictures that our minds came up with. Stories our brain concocted while we slept, though this is what my mom told me so being young I believed it. (This was a period in my life when I had nothing but nightmares. Every single night! She probably said this to make me feel better, though I think this is what she truly believes.) This is proven when it comes to lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is when you can control what happens in your dream. It takes a bit of practice, but you CAN do it! It may be easier for some than it is for others. This comes in very handy with nightmares. I personally can lucid dream very easily. (It is quite annoying because my dreams have lost their spontanity. (sp?) I much rather let my dreams work themselves out. It's more fun, even if something terrible happens.) As I got even older and more aware, I started to realize more that some dreams had meanings and messages in them, which lead me to believe that they weren't simply things that our mind just made up to entertain us. Then I became aware of our subconscious and realized that a lot of dreams stem from that. Feelings we harbor deep inside and are even unaware of. I then thought dreams were our subconscious manifesting itself, in a sense. Another thing are premonitions. A lot of people have a dream, wake up, and find that their dreams have come true! Sometimes this can be humoruos and they can often times be very frightening! This makes me think that every human being posseses a sixth sense to some extent. It is just more powerful in some than in others. Others may feel that these visions come from a higher power. That's for you to decide. I have personally had a couple of premonition dreams, though my predictions that come true usually happen while I'm awake. (I'll save that for another article though.)
It wasn't until about 4 or 5 years ago that it occured to me that dreaming may be a portal to another realm or world. This occured when I had dreams where I actually felt what was happening in my dreams. (Let me tell you getting srayed with battery acid does NOT tickle!) I knew there was NO way in the world I could possibly feel that lying in my bed. I mean feeling things I had never felt before and tasting things I had never tasted before. There is no way I could imagine that! Another thing that I recently noticed about dreams is time. This also points to the theory of entering a different realm. I had noticed some mornings when I accidently fall back asleep before school. I could sleep and have a whole dream that takes at least 20 minutes. When I wake up thinking I'm extremely late, only 3 or 4 minutes have passed by! (No joke!) ______________________________________________________________________________ So, I myself came to a few theories about dreams. I believe them all to be true, depending upon the situation. IN CONCLUSION Dreams may be: *Your Imagination: I know that a lot of my dreams in particular may just be my imagination. I have had plenty of dreams where I'm in this fantastic new world or something and a lot of my dreams are very cinematic like movies. This is proven with lucid dreaming, which is dictating what happens in your dreams. *Symbolic Messages/Premonitions: A lot of dreams DO carry messages! A lot of dreams have numerous symbols, although it may not always appear that way. A lot of dreams have everyday items that you may think are insignificant, but carry GREAT meaning, such as a table representing relationships. I recommend reading a dream dictionary if you wish to interpret yours or other people's dreams, or if you just want to read something interesting. There are plenty available online. Whether the messages come from your subconcious, a phantom, a higher power, a natural sixth sense, etc. is for you to decide. *Your Subcoucious: Dreams can also be your subconcious manifesting itself and making known. It may something as reliving a memory you once thought was gone forever or recalling things you've seen like a movie or even your hidden feelings about things. This may also tie in with the symbolism in dreams to. *A Portal to another Realm: Let's face it, some dreams are entirely TOO weird and strange to just come from our heads! These are the dreams where you feel things you've never felt before. Speak languages you didn't even know existed. Taste things you've never tasted before. Where you enter a world different from your own (however similar they may be.) and even time is different from that of the real world! (These dreams are my personal favorite, even though not every world is good.) *Vision from a Past Life: A lot of people claimt to have dreams and/or visions of their past life. This of course depends on whether or not you believe in reincarnation or not, however. ______________________________________________________________________________ Here are some interesting "dreams" I had. They may not even be classified as dreams, but I wanted to include them anyway. One really interesting form of "dreams" I experienced was an Out Of Body experience (OOB). There were a few times when I had woken up just the tiniest bit early and really wanted to know the time, but I did NOT want to get up to go look. (A clock was in the next room.) I lay there and think about it and think about it, and I would eventually fall asleep. My dream body would go into the next room and look at the time. A few minutes later my grandma would come and wake me up and I would ask her what time she came in. It was almost EXACTLY right! Another interesting form of "dreaming" that I have personally experienced is a false awakening. This is when you think you have awokened and everything seems normal and you do things as you would normally do. Nothing is out of place and nothing is surreal or twisted in logic, like most are. Then you are shocked to wake again a few seconds later to find that you never woke up in the first place. Another "dream" problem is something called sleep paralysis where you cannot move your body at all when you are sleeping. I've had this quite a few times and it is very frightening! In fact, I had a case of this just 2 weeks ago. (This may not be related to this, but I have had many occasions where I could not open my eyes while I was sleeping and wake myself up.)
