Nothing on a face I've seen before.
Stretching the moments, with bare fingertips.
I write you invisible love letters.
I forget an embrace I've never felt.
I promise not to forget your name.

Tell me a joke and let's laugh. So we can pretend. So I can pretend.


Remember when you couldn't breath?

There is a space between us.
I can admit everything.
A bold silence on a vast sea of secrets.
I sent one out for you.

A tiny air particle that invades your breath.
By the time you laugh I'll be waiting again.
And again. And again.
Soon, once we write another joke with a mental note--
who will still remember?

Echo after silence.
And my forgetful memory-
of the luminous skies I've seen in her face before.
I could have died a thousand times and still remember;
The struck ember in her lips.
And the pointed gun at my tongue.
Forgive me.


I may only remain in a forgotten memory.
Perhaps a scarce cause for a meaningful laugh,
and all but one thing will keep me from stopping-
Denial.
