Episode I mainly serves as an exposition for the characters and the developing plot. After Dr. Matsuda discovers the Original Zohar in 20xx CE, the game is warped 4000 years into the future. The Galaxy Federation starship Woglinde houses both the KOS-MOS development project and a Zohar Emulator, which was discovered in the wake of the vanished planet Ariadne. Shion Uzuki, a Vector Industries employee, proceeds with a test experiment on the battle android KOS-MOS, which includes a brief appearance of a young girl (Nephilim). Nephilim encounters Shion again while she investigates the Zohar Emulator. Eventually, the Woglinde is attacked by a group of Gnosis, who are lusting after the Emulator. This attack is partly orchestrated by U-TIC Organization operatives Vanderkam and Cherenkov, who wish to acquire the Emulator for their boss, Margulis. During the attack, KOS-MOS is activated suddenly, the Gnosis escape with the Emulator, Shion and Cherenkov are touched by Gnosis, and the U-TIC operatives escape (sans Cherenkov). Federation Lieutenant Virgil is also shot by KOS-MOS in a friendly fire incident. After the Woglinde is destroyed, Shion, Cherenkov, Allen Ridgely, and KOS-MOS are rescued by the Elsa starship, which was investigating the ruins of the starship for the Kukai Foundation. On the starship, the group encounters the mysterious boy chaos before asking Captain Matthews to escort them to Second Miltia.
Meanwhile, Margulis explains the significance of U-TIC's plan to recover the Original Zohar from Old Miltia. Immediately thereafter, Vector's CEO, Wilhelm, is shown ordering Red Testament to "gather the necessary factors". Cyborg Ziggurat 8 (Ziggy) is assigned by the S.O.C.E. to rescue the 100-Series Realian Prototype, MOMO, who was kidnapped by the U-TIC Organization because she carries the Y-Data, which contains the steps to finding the Original Zohar on Old Miltia, among other information. The S.O.C.E. then orders Ziggy to bring MOMO to Second Miltia for testing of the Y-Data. Ziggy reaches the U-TIC headquarters (Pleroma) and rescues MOMO, fighting U-TIC leader Margulis on his way out. However, the duo is chased by U-TIC operatives in hyperspace until they encounters the Elsa. The two parties meet, defeat the pursuing U-TIC forces, and decide to join together on their journey to Second Miltia. During this incident, the never-aging U.R.T.V. unit Jr. is attacked by a U-TIC battleship while investigating the Woglinde for any signs of the Zohar Emulator. Jr. escapes with a significant amount of U-TIC information.

The Kukai Foundation
After stopping at Dock Colony, the Elsa runs into the Cathedral Ship, a planet-sized Gnosis created from the disappeared planet Ariadne and made complete with the Zohar Emulator stolen from the Woglinde. While escaping the Cathedral Ship, Cherenkov mutates into a Gnosis and dies. The Elsa and the party are rescued by Jr. and the Durandal starship, which was passing by in search for the Emulator. Jr. apprehends the Zohar Emulator from the destroyed Cathedral Ship and explains that he now has the twelve Emulators created by scientist Joachim Mizrahi (MOMO's creator). However, Emulators are only contain a fraction of the power that is housed by the Original Zohar, trapped on Old Miltia. Jr. takes them back to the Kukai Foundation, where the party is introduced to Jr.'s fellow U.R.T.V. unit, Gaignun Kukai. Eventually, the Galaxy Federation places charges on the Kukai Foundation for the destruction of the Woglinde, due to some manipulation by U-TIC officials and insiders. In order to prove innocence, Shion Uzuki leads a dive into the Encephalon to find KOS-MOS' black box, which will prove that the Gnosis were responsible. In the Encephalon, the party relives childhood memories, including the Miltian Conflict. Furthermore, Shion is encountered by Febronia, who explains that a time will come where KOS-MOS will encounter the wave existence U-DO, and in the near future, Shion will free her "sisters". Febronia also states that all factions involved must travel to Old Miltia.
U-TIC realizes that their plot to distract Kukai and Miltia in order to apprehend MOMO has failed, so they dispatch Jr.'s brother and fellow U.R.T.V. unit, Albedo, to formulate his own strategy. Albedo decides to activate the Song of Nephilim, which generates a Gnosis attack around the Kukai Foundation. In the confusion surrounding the attack, Albedo kidnapps MOMO and brings her to the Song of Nephilim. Shion and the party go to the Song and defeat Albedo. Before escaping, Albedo successfully searches MOMO for the Y-Data. Afterward, Blue Testament appears and demands that the party travel to Old Miltia. The Song deactivates, and the Gnosis attack is thwarted. However, Albedo has one last goal to accomplish; he summons Proto Merkabah, the space station created by Joachim Mizrahi, in an attempt to destroy Second Miltia and the Kukai Foundation. Albedo methodically destroys the Federation fleet in the region, and prepares to fire on Second Miltia. This does not follow the plans of U-TIC, but the Blue Testament (now revealed as Virgil) decides to leave him be.
Inside Proto Merkabah, the party encounters Albedo, who summons a Gnosis to "test" the party and buy Albedo time to escape. Albedo sets Merkabah on a collison course with Second Miltia, which the party stops by breaking the space station into thousands of pieces. However, during re-entry, the Elsa's heat shield begins to disintegrate; KOS-MOS briefly morphs into a powerful being to prevent the Elsa from being destroyed. Meanwhile, Albedo discovers that the Y-Data is protected; he tells U-TIC that MOMO will have to connect to the U.M.N. for the data to work. While these events are transpiring, Wilhelm stares at his Compass of Order, understanding that his plans are going in full motion.
Episode II begins with a flashback of the Miltian Conflict, where chaos and Caanan are ordered to pilot E.S. Asher to Old Miltia and retrieve the U.R.T.V. units from the Realian rioting near Labyrinthos, the U-TIC Organization headquarters. Along the way, the two men encounter Federation officer Jin Uzuki, who is investigating the root of the Conflict. Uzuki believes that the entire Conflict is a set-up to turn U-TIC into a scapegoat, which, in turn, will keep the larger organization hidden in the shadows. Jin Uzuki holds what that organization wants: the Y-Data, which holds the key to Joachim Mizrahi's research on the Original Zohar. The trio encounters U-TIC operative Margulis along the way, who demands that the Y-Data be returned. Uzuki defeats Margulis in a swordfight. Caanan is then entrusted with the Y-Data, which is the last thing that Caanan remembers from the Conflict.
In the present day, Margulis talks with the Patriarch of Ormus, explaining that Albedo will unlock the safeguard on the Y-Data and lead them to Old Miltia. The two also discuss Ormus operative Heinlein's motives. On Second Miltia, Caanan leaves the investigation disappointed once again; he can not activate the Y-Data stored within him. Meanwhile, Shion Uzuki and the rest of the party arrive at Second Miltia, where they part their separate ways. Jr., MOMO, Ziggy, and chaos are chased by U-TIC operatives wishing to capture MOMO once again. However, the attacks are thwarted. At Second Miltia's Vector Industries headquarters, Shion, Allen Ridgely, and KOS-MOS are briefed of the increasing Gnosis threat. Soon after, Shion is reunited with her brother, Jin Uzuki, who is now running a bookstore. Eventually, both parties are reunited during MOMO's analysis of the Y-Data via the U.M.N. During the analysis, Albedo gains control and dives into MOMO's subconcious via the Encephalon. The party follows; Jr. experiences the history behind the U.R.T.V. units, which include him, Albedo, Gaignun Kukai, and Citrine. However, the party is too late; Albedo manages to unlock the safeguard on the Y-Data and open up Old Miltia.
Seizing the moment, both the Federation and Ormus ("Immigrant" wink fleets launch their invasion into Old Miltian space with a mutual goal of seizing the Original Zohar. The Immigrant/Ormus fleet gains the advantage and quickly decends to Old Miltia. Meanwhile, Shion and Allen return to the Dammerung to report the recent events to Vector Industries. On Second Miltia, Representative Helmer decides to launch an attack on Old Miltia in conjunction with the Kukai Foundation, Vector Industries, and S.O.C.E.; this way, the Original Zohar is apprehended by a neutral party. However, after Shion encounters Febronia, she remembers that her goal was to venture to Old Miltia and "save Febronia's sisters". Shion and Allen escape from the Dammerung. Wilhelm watches the escape and states that Shion is an important figure that can not be loss, and KOS-MOS will be the key to absolute knowledge. Therefore, he decides to activate KOS-MOS secretly to assist Shion and Allen at Old Miltia. However, as they progress into Old Miltian space, their advance is cut short by the Black Testament, which forces the group to retreat to the convinently approaching Elsa.
Reunited, the party launches another strike into Old Miltian space by flying between the two black holes of the Abyss, destroying an Ormus Stronghold along the way. After weaving through the space battle between the Federation and Ormus/Immigrant fleets, the Elsa lands aside Labyrinthos. Inside Labyrinthos, Jin Uzuki confirms his suspicions: Joachim Mizrahi was being used during the Miltian Conflict, the U-TIC Orgnaization, Immigrant Fleet, and Hyams are all fronts for the Ormus society, and Mizrahi forced Old Miltia into the abyss to prevent the re-awakening of U-DO, a powerful wave existence fused with the Original Zohar. In other words, Mizrahi was a hero who was initially manipulated by Ormus, the true organization behind U-TIC and the Immigrant fleet.

The Omega System
At the core of Labyrinthos, Margulis and Jin Uzuki face off once again. Afterward, Shion noticed that Febronia's sisters - Cecily and Cathe, are part of the safeguard to maintain the Zohar. However, the Ormus Patriarch appears, and explains the Ormus and the Zohar will guide humans for eternity. U-DO and the Zohar begin to glow, and KOS-MOS tries to stop it by destroying Cecily and Cathe. The gambit fails; the Patriarch summons another Mizrahi invention - Proto Omega - to fuse with the Zohar and create a weapon that could strike anywhere in space. The Patriarch explains that he will use Omega to destroy the Gnosis and command the galaxy under Ormus. The party is then forces to escape as Second Miltia is morphed into the Omega System, which is the result of the Zohar and Omega fusion. Meanwhile, Gaignun Kukai morphs into Yuriev, the U.R.T.V. creator. Margulis and Hyams scientist, Sellers, betray the Patriarch in favor of Heinlein. The Patriarch is left in the Omega System to defend himself.
Shion and her allies enter the Omega System and confront the Patriarch, who is also confronted by a dying Albedo. The Testaments defeat the Patriarch and revive Albedo so that he can morph Miltian space into a space-time anomaly. After Albedo does this, Jr. decides to confront his brother personally; he dives into the anomaly and defeats Albedo. Although the space-time anomaly is destroyed, the Original Zohar remains floating in space. Before the Durandal and the Kukai Foundation can rush to acquire it, a star system-sized Gnosis appears: Abel's Ark. Abel's Ark retrieves the Original Zohar and vanishes. Both chaos and Wilhelm observe with deep interest; the latter also deems the former "Yeshua". After these events, the party separates to try and lead normal lives, although Jin worries that the chain of events is not over (Ormus is still alive, and the Zohar was abruptly seized by a mysterious force). The game ends with Wilhelm crowning the fourth Testament. Willhelm calls this man, "Weaver of the Eternal Circle of Zarathustra."
Episode III begins a year after Abel's Ark's first appearance (which had swallowed the Zohar before disappearing from normal space). The various parties had went about their lives; Jin Uzuki continues to work with Jr and gang behind the scenes to investigate Ormus while Shion Uzuki returned to Vector Industries with KOS-MOS.
Approximately 6 months after that event, Gnosis attacks began to happen more frequently, targeting cities around the star cluster. Due to the precision of these attacks, many believed that someone was controlling the location of the attacks that were happening. These attacks are termed Gnosis Terrorism.
It was during one of the investigations by Jin's group on the Gnosis terrorism that Shion discovers a link between her father and U-TIC, while suspecting Vector to have a hand in these terror attacks. Shion resigned her job as Chief of First R&D of Vector and joined the underground organization Scientia, an anti-U.M.N rebel group.
Enlisting the help of Miyuki (her assistance from Vector), Canaan and Doctus (a prominent member of Scientia), Shion broke into Vector's secret facility to obtain valuable information that was originally only accessible to high level members of Vector. The information led to the discovery of Project Canaan, of which its true purpose was unknown at this point.
Meanwhile, Vector transferred the KOS-MOS project to the Federation military. Allen Ridgely (the new Chief) was sent together with KOS-MOS to the federation capital, Fifth Jerusalem. 6 months after Shion resigned, Allen invited her to visit him at Fifth Jerusalem. Shion arrived to discover that KOS-MOS was scheduled to face off against the federation's newest weapon in a public demonstration. With the help of Juli Mizrahi and Allen, Shion was able to witness the federation's weapons, Telos and Omega Novae.
Telos is a human-like android that looks similar to KOS-MOS (dark skin, dark armor and white hair). Her capabilities far exceeds those of KOS-MOS (version 3). Omega Novae was the Proto Omega that was salvaged by the federation after the last battle in Ep II. With the help of Sellers (who had joined up with Dimitri Yuriev), they managed to power the machine with the help of a fake Zohar emulator (not the ones that was built by Joachim Mizrahi). KOS-MOS was badly beaten by Omega Novae, which resulted in the termination of the KOS-MOS project.
It was at this moment that a huge mysterious asteroid / landmass appeared in space. Jr together with MOMO and the Elsa departs to investigate it. When they arrived at the area, they were attacked by Margulis in his E.S. During the battle, the Elsa was damaged and crash-landed on the asteroid, which Margulis refers to as Renne-Le-Chateau. At this moment, a hypersphere of energy erupted from the landmass. Jr and gang barely managed to escape to the Durandal. The hypersphere wraps around the landmass, trapping the Elsa in it.
Juli deduced that only KOS-MOS has the ability to break open the hypersphere for them to rescue the Elsa. The team made their way to Fifth Jerusalem and met up with Shion. Together, they broke into the federation compound to salvage KOS-MOS, which had been dumped at the scrap yard.
With KOS-MOS's help, they managed to break into the landmass and made contact with the Elsa. While investigating the area, they were attacked by the Blue Testament, who revealed himself as Lieutenant Virgil (who was killed by KOS-MOS in Ep I). After fighting him off, the team came upon an old tomb. At this moment, Telos appeared and fought with KOS-MOS. In a one-sided affair, KOS-MOS was destroyed by Telos. Suddenly, Shion pendant began to emit a bright light.
When they came to, they found themselves back on Old Miltia, exactly 15 years ago, days before the disappearance of Old Miltia. With no sign of both Telos and KOS-MOS, the group proceed to look for the Elsa. During the journey, they rescued a young Federation soldier from U-TIC soldiers, who was revealed as the young Virgil.
They brought him to an old church, where he was treated by Febronia (who had donated parts of her organs to him). It was there that they met the young Shion, who was just a child 15 years ago. When they found the Elsa, they discovered that KOS-MOS's core module was damaged and may never wake again. Also, the Vessels of Anima that powered their E.S. machines were missing. Determined to investigate her father's involvement with U-TIC, Shion infiltrated Labyrinthos with Allen.
When she was there, she met up with her father and discovered that her mother was one of the patients housed in the facility and confined his involvement with U-TIC. She also met the young Kevin Winnicot (her decreased lover & KOS-MOS's creator), who was serving as Joachim Mizrahi's assistant and caretaker of Febronia. She found KOS-MOS's basic theory on Kevin's computer and hastily copied it.
Shion and Allen returned to the team with the information that the obtained. With the data from Kevin and the help of the Professor, they rebuilt KOS-MOS. At this moment, the Black Testament attacked the Elsa and attempted to steal the un-activated KOS-MOS. When the Black Testament was about to kill Shion, KOS-MOS (version 4) awoke and rescued her. With her help, the team fought off the Black Testament.
In a bid to attempt to change history and prevent the Miltian Conflict from happening, the team returned to Labyrinthos. They found the Vessels of Anima in the base and stole them. When they were escaping from the place with their E.S., Shion heard her mother's name being called over the public announcement system, and returned to Labyrinthos to find her. She was caught in her attempt and was questioned by the younger Margulis, Kevin and her father.
Hours away from the federation's 3rd descent operation (which triggered the full-scale battles), the team decides to return to Labyrinthos to rescue Shion. While held captive, Shion realises that her father (who does not know she is the older Shion) was secretly aiding her. In the chaos of the battle between the U-TIC soldiers and the Federation forces, he asked Shion to go look for the young Shion at the church and bring her to safety.
When the team reached the church, they realized that it was attacked by Realian troops (that has gone crazy due to the Song of Nempilim). Febronia was killed in her attempt to save the recuperating Virgil and the young Shion. Virgil, who had developed a relationship with Febronia while during her care, fought the Realian troops to help the rest escape. It was during this moment that the Blue Testament (Virgil) appeared. Just as he was about to attack the team, Febronia appeared and convinced him to abandon this Testament duty and together, they disappeared into the twilight.
In the chaos, young Shion had returned to Labyrinthos to look for her parents. The team returned to Labyrinthos and found the place to be a mess. Crazy Realians had overran the facility. In a bid to save the young Shion, Shion's father sacrificed himself. The Realians had also brutally murdered Shion's mother in her ward. Filled with grief and anger after witnessing her parents' death, young Shion cried out to the heavens. It was at this moment that the Gnosis began appeared in Old Miltia.
Shocked by the realization that it was her who had caused the Gnosis to appear, Shion began to glow as well. Abel's Ark appeared in normal space and Wilhelm proclaims the first awakening. The Red Testament appeared at this moment together with Telos and revealed himself as Kevin Winnicot.
He began to explain how Shion, like her mother, has the ability to "talk" with U-DO. Therefore, by staying with KOS-MOS (who draws power from the Zohar), she is slowly and surely losing her life. Filled with love and misery, Shion attempts to leave with Kevin, but was stopped by the team. The team escaped to the Elsa and returned back to normal time.
It was later that they realized that they had made a dive into Shion's subconscious. Due to the trauma of her parents' death, Shion has suppressed those memories deep inside her. Thus the goal of the Testaments was to re-awake her conscious and bring the Abel's Ark back into normal space.
Meanwhile, Dimitri Yuriev, who had took over Gaigiun's body, set off with Merkabah and his Federation fleet for Abel's Ark. To stop him, the team infiltrated Merkabah in the Elsa during the chaotic battle between the Gnosis, the Federation as well as the Ormus fleet led by Margulis.
The team met Sellers, who revealed that Yuriev needed the Zohar emulators to unite with Abel's Ark. At this moment, the Federation forces attacked and boarded the Durandal. All the crew were killed except for Mary and Shelly, who both held the Arbiter code that seals off the Zohar emulators on board the Durandal.
The team returned to the Durandal but was too late to stop Dimitri Yuriev, who succeed in activating the emulators. The team just about managed to escape from the Durandal before it was rammed into Abel's Ark, transforming the Ark.
Determined to stop his father, Jr led the team into the Ark and defeated Yuriev. At the final moment, the White Testament appeared and revealed himself as Albedo. Albedo draws out the Zohar and Abel and sent them away. Together with Jr, they linked up to try to absorb Gaignun (Nigredo)'s will into Jr's mind to save him. However, sensing Albedo's wish (that is to kill Nigredo, who was created to kill the Red Dragon, Rubedo aka Jr), Nigredo forced himself into Albedo's body and transferred Albedo's mind into Jr. Nigredo sacrificed himself and perished together with Dimitri Yuriev. Albedo finally fulfill his wish of psychically linking with Jr and disappeared into Jr's consciousness.
Just before Albedo disappeared, he informed Jr that the Zohar and Abel was sent to the planet Michtam. The team left for Michtam in the Elsa, in which its space was currently engulfed in a fierce battle by the Ormus fleet and the Gnosis.
At this moment, Cardinal Heinlein revealed himself to Margulis. Heinlein is actually Wilhelm in disguise. Wilhelm revealed that he created the Ormus, Vector and Hyam industries for his own purposes. Shattered by their blind faith, Margulis and Pellegri descended into Michtam and fought Jin's group to the death.
In the main cathedral of Michtam, the group fought against the Black Testament. Voyager, as Ziggy calls him, fought with Ziggy but Ziggy was no match for him. Voyager was the man who murdered his wife and child. Voyager revealed that he had tried to convince Ziggy to be a Testament together with him, and that many of the group's members are also suitable candidates to be a Testament. At this moment, Canaan came forth and revealed himself as Lactis, and explained the true purpose of Project Canaan. He was created by Wilhelm to observe for suitable traits in the team as candidates to be a Testament.
Sensing Voyager's greed for power, Canaan tricked him into attempting to link with Wilhelm's Compass of Order and Chaos. However Voyager could not absorb that power and both of them vanished into another dimension.
The team continues to breach the facility, and fought with Telos again. Telos revealed that she has the body of Mary Magdalene, while KOS-MOS had her will stored in her. Thus she needs to destroy KOS-MOS to absorb that will into her body for her full awakening. Telos also calls Shion as the Maiden of Magdalene, who holds the key to her will. KOS-MOS easily defeated Telos and fully awakens. At this moment, Kevin appeared and tried to convince KOS-MOS and Shion to his side.
Shion was blinded by her love and joined him, but was convinced by Allen that Kevin is wrong, that the happiness she will get will not be happiness if she cannot share it with her friends. At this moment, Kevin was called back by Wilhelm.
The team proceed to Zarathustra was stopped by Wilhelm. He revealed that the universe is on the verge of being destroyed. To save the world, he will need to use the power of Anima, as well as the Zohar and Zarathustra to remake the world, and bring it back to the origins again so that they can live this life over and over again.
But to do that, he needs the desire of Shion, as she holds the key to Mary Magdalene's will. It was also revealed that chaos originally had the power of Anima, but was deemed too dangerous and sealed away by Mary Magdalene. The process had caused Mary's dead and those power became the Vessels of Anima. Only Mary can unseal that power and only Shion can make Mary do it.
Wilhelm tortures Shion to force her to will it. Unable to bear his love from the sufferings, Kevin attacked, and killed Wilhelm. Wilhelm reveals that he had anticipated that Kevin would betray him, as he became a Testament only to save Shion. At this moment, chaos told Wilhelm that he believes mankind has the will to change that future and prevent the universe from destruction. Wilhelm acknowledges chao's will and disappeared together with Kevin.
In order to stop Zarathustra, which had gone out of control due to the collective minds that was gathered by Wilhelm previously, Mary releases the seal to chaos's power and together with Nemplim, KOS-MOS and Abel, chaos attempts to bring those wills back to Lost Jerusalem, back to the origin of time. He urges the rest to escape, that they have a mission to change this world.
In their escape, they noticed a lot of Gnosis gathering around the area. Those Gnosis did not want to leave the world and thus were going to stop chaos and Nemplim from completing their ritual. After alighting the team, Jin bade farewell as he departs in Asher to return to assist chaos in fending off the Gnosis.
A battle erupts as Jin and KOS-MOS fought against the Gnosis to shield chaos. Jin lost his life and KOS-MOS sacrificed herself in an explosion. At this moment, space and time warped. All U.M.N. networks had disappeared.
The Elsa had escaped from the space warp and met up with the Dammerung.
At the end, Jr, Shion and Allen, together with the Elsa, set off to look for Lost Jerusalem.
Shion Uzuki (シオン・ウヅキ) was assigned to Vector Industries' First R&D Division at the young age of 18 in T.C. 4763. Her official title is "Chief Engineer of the KOS-MOS Project General Operation System Research Center, Vector Industries First R&D Division"[3]. Her youth, keen intellect and good looks make her a popular person in the company. She has a bright, cheerful personality and is ever the optimist, perhaps to hide the scars of losing both her parents as a child and her fiancé two years ago. In Episode I, it was revealed that she suffers from astraphobia, the result of two traumatic incidents which happened during lightning storms[4][5][6]; losing her parents and later her fiancé, Kevin. She does not get along well with her brother, Jin Uzuki (though she genuinely confesses that she needs him), who is thirteen years her senior. Shion ends up being swept, along with KOS-MOS and her co-worker Allen Ridgeley, into a conspiracy concerning the very fate of mankind itself.
In addition to her intellect (a key factor in her usage of nanotechnology) she learned the same martial arts that Jin and Margulis are masters of as taught by her grandfather. However, unlike Jin and Margulis, she primarily focuses on hand-to-hand combat with use of her M.W.S..
Throughout the series, Shion has exhibited abilities unbecoming of most humans. During the Gnosis' assault on the Woglinde, she was caught in close proximity to an FAE (fuel air explosion), which no ordinary human could possibly survive. Shion, however, was blown away slightly by the explosion and left otherwise unscathed. Shion has also demonstrated the peculiar ability to hear the Song of Nephilim, something which only Realians and U.R.T.V.s should be capable of (it should be noted that chaos has also demonstrated this ability, but his status as a "human being" remains ambiguous at best). During a Gnosis assault on the Woglinde -which Shion is employed in- Shion was caught by a Gnosis in its immaterial state, which was able to grip onto her. She was able to escape crystallization and mysteriously avoided the fate of those whom did not survive such an encounter with a Gnosis, as those that comes into physical contact with Gnosis usually transformed into one. Andrew Cherenkov, for instance, suffered such a fate. This could be due to her status as the "Maiden" or her possession of what Wilhelm referred to as the "Shining Will", which is a prerequisite to become a Testament; it is said that those with the Shining Will will not Gnosify.
Shion can link to U-DO, and can communicate with it, with U-DO responding to her through this power.[7][8] During the Miltian Conflict (as a child), after seeing her parents killed by berserk realians she summons the Gnosis from her distress through the Zohar. When she once again experiences this as an adult she loses control and summons Abels Ark (a giant Gnosis). Shion also suffers from the same illness as her mother, which Kevin reveals is caused by communication with U-DO.[9] Kevin confirms in Episode III that KOS-MOS is gradually killing Shion since KOS-MOS uses the Zohar and U-DO as an energy source.[10] Had U-DO not chosen to let humanity live on, Shion would have ultimately died due to the extreme stress caused by these communications.
She has also experienced several unusual perceptions, seeing visions of the young girl named "Nephilim" and of her deceased Realian nanny Febronia.[11] It is also revealed in Xenosaga I & II and the database of III that she has the natural ability to see into the "Realm of Imaginary Numbers", where the Gnosis hail from. Her glasses inhibit this ability and allow her to experience relatively normal perceptions. However, as this sense of hers is not active all the time, and as she "has gotten used to it," she removes the glasses when they present an inconvenience to her daily life.
Her consciousness has existed since the time of Lost Jerusalem as the maiden and close acquaintance of Mary Magdalene; her brief vision of the distant past was not through KOS-MOS' memory, but through her own. It can be deduced from KOS-MOS' last words that Shion's former self died as a result of being caught up in some larger occurrence, and that KOS-MOS (Mary) had been unable to protect her.
After discovering Allen's feelings for her on Michtam, Shion took the first step towards her independence. Shion, so caught up in the memories shared with Kevin Winnicot, had not truly realized the extent of Allen's love for her. Because Allen differs from Kevin in every conceivable way, including attitude, disposition and personal history, Shion felt as though he would be the one able to offer comfort for her sorrowful heart.
Thus begins Shion's journey to Lost Jerusalem, wherein humanity's collective consciousness awaits guidance and salvation.[12]
[edit]KOS-MOS
KOS-MOS has significant powers believed to be superior to all other party members. In addition to superhuman strength and speed, her body is formed from some sort of highly advanced nanomachines that allows her to morph parts of her body (specifically her arms) into various energy projectile and melee weapons. Her body is also able to self-repair and is very durable though not indestructible, and she is also protected by a force-shield. She also possesses the ability to summon weapons such as the F-GSHOT chainguns and her famous F-SCYTHE and equipment from another location via U.M.N. transport. She also has a long-range sensory array, the D.S.S.S. system and CPU that exceeds even those possessed by Observational Realians.
She also possesses a Hilbert Effect projector whose power is thousands of times greater than that achieved by even the largest spaceships.
KOS-MOS possesses several black box components left behind by Kevin Winnicot. Each of these black box features are found in each of her skeletons, version 1, version 2, version 3, and version 4. One of these is her potent X-BUSTER weapon, a powerful burst of energy beams from her abdomen that absorb the Gnosis. Others are related to her "simulated personality" OS and her self-awareness which is more in fact Mary Magdalene resting inside of her. KOS-MOS also has some form of energy manipulation tied to the Zohar. The Red Testament, Kevin Winnicot, claimed that KOS-MOS's power came from "U-DO using the Zohar as a door".
KOS-MOS has another weapon system called the Tertiary Weapon System, which is seen periodically throughout the series. They consist of a set of energy wings, a pair of energy cannons and other attachments meant to be fitted onto her. The wings and cannons are part of a Phase Transference Cannon. While wearing this gear she is shown in a premonition flying through space at sub-light speed and then confronting U-DO above an unknown planet. The exchange that follows destroys several galaxies. The "Third Armament" as its also known makes a real-time appearance in Episode II on the Ω System. KOS-MOS uses this equipment to protect Shion and the party from U-DO. In Episode 3, KOS-MOS uses the tertiary weapon system to penetrate the barrier that surrounded Rennes-Les-Chateau in order to help the Elsa crew. The Tertiary Weapon System is really only compatible with her Version 2 and Version 3 skeletons.
While she is programmed to protect Vector personnel unconditionally, her highest priority is to protect Shion specifically.[13] As seen early in Episode I, she has the capacity to ignore Shion's orders if Kevin Winnicot (the Red Testament)'s pre-programmed directives supersede them. In Episode III, shortly after KOS-MOS is destroyed by T-elos and subsequently rebuilt she rejects the direct commands of Kevin Winnicot. She is rebuilt with some of the Professor's Erde Kaiser technology, which makes her much more powerful than before.
An almost human alternate persona tends to come out from time to time in the form of a blue-eyed KOS-MOS. This blue-eyed KOS-MOS is far more powerful than red-eyed KOS-MOS and talks in a more empathetic human-sounding voice. This alternate KOS-MOS is in fact KOS-MOS' true personality that partially awakens at times when Shion is in extreme danger. Her true identity is that of Mary Magdalene.
Mary makes several appearances in Xenosaga: wiping out a fleet of Gnosis surrounding the Cathedral Ship with her X-Buster attack, asking chaos to save the Elsa from burning up in the Second Militian atmosphere using his Anima power while providing 'cover' by seeming to protect the ship herself, and saving Shion and Allen from being killed by Voyager, the Black Testament, allowing the party's E.S.s to enter Rennes-le-Chateâu and at the end of Episode III.
Mary also asked Shion during her first appearance in Episode I, "Will feeling pain make me complete?", though Shion could not give her an answer because she could not hear her voice in the vacuum of space. Shion at first had not directly seen KOS-MOS as Mary and was oblivious to her existence until the later chapters of Episode III.
KOS-MOS was created by Kevin Winnicot to hold the soul of Mary Magdalene, who possesses the power of Animus. According to the Official Complete Guide, Mary was the human incarnation of Animus, a power that complements Anima. While KOS-MOS has Mary's soul, T-elos was built using Mary's body. In order for Mary to fully awaken, one must be absorbed by the other. Long ago, Mary had died in the act of "sealing" chaos' Anima power, separating it from him and dividing it into the twelve Anima Vessels. This also resulted in Mary's will being scattered across the U.M.N. It is stated that Shion, being the incarnation of the "Maiden of Mary", is needed in order to retrieve Mary's soul from the U.M.N.
Mary awakens in KOS-MOS instead of T-elos, which results in the transformation of Mary's original memories and characteristics into an entirely new personality which is both Mary and not Mary at the same time. The game's database compares it to Sakura's transformation into MOMO, Wilhelm planned to use KOS-MOS' control of the Anima through her emotional bond with chaos to start Zarathustra. However, she rejects Wilhelm's plan and destroys the "Key" (Shion's pendant), saving Shion from Wilhelm's torture.
After the defeat of Zarathustra, KOS-MOS stays behind with Nephilim, chaos, and Abel in order to assist in Nephilim's plan to send the collective unconsciousness of humanity to Lost Jerusalem. She parts ways with Shion in an emotional goodbye, promising that she will see her again; Shion tells her that it was nice to finally meet the "real you". KOS-MOS then transfers her Animus power into Nephilim (according to the database, this is the Animus power, not Mary's will), to enable her to carry the fractured wills (gnosis) that chaos guides into her with his power. She protects Nephilim and chaos from the invading Gnosis as they focus on completing the dimensional shift to Lost Jerusalem.
In the last moments of the battle, KOS-MOS sacrifices herself to destroy a Carrier-type Gnosis (which resembles an enormous blue-colored sperm whale). According to the database, her last words referred to how she was unable to save Shion's past incarnation from dying in ancient times, but now in this lifetime she could save her. The battle ends with KOS-MOS being heavily damaged, losing an arm and both legs and being left behind after Abel's Ark, with Michtam inside it, is pulled into hyperspace. She then begins a long journey through space, chaos' spirit comforting her, and telling her to sleep until the time they are needed again.
She is last seen silently floating towards a single blue planet with white rings before a rising sun. This planet is the restored Lost Jerusalem—Earth. This is the last scene of Episode III.

The stage of Xenosaga: Pied Piper takes place T.C. 4667, 100 years prior to the events of Xenosaga: Episode I. Before he became Ziggurat 8, Jan Sauer was a Captain in the 1875th Special Operations detachment of the Federation Police Bureau. He and his squad were deployed to the planet Abraxas (later renamed Michtam) to investigate murders in the U.M.N.. These terrorist acts were caused by a cloaked individual under the hacker alias "Voyager."
Sauer became further intertwined with the destiny of the Zohar when he met the widow Sharon Rozas and her son Joaquin. Jan Sauer and Sharon developed a relationship which led to marriage.
With the help of his squad and Sharon’s medical knowledge, Sauer's investigation draws closer to the funding source of Voyager’s murders. This turns out to be Dimitri Yuriev, who quickly utilizes his connections within the government to have Sauer and his team removed from the investigation. This does not stop Sauer, even after he and some of his subordinates are arrested.
Only after the death of one of his subordinates, Mikhail Ortmann, does Sauer discover that another member of his team, Erich Weber, is Voyager. Erich explains in part his connection with U-DO, before his Voyager alias takes over and lures Sauer to witness his wife and son's deaths. At this point, Voyager becomes the Black Testament, and Sauer could do nothing to prevent his family's death. The Black Testament presented an ultimatum to Sauer: either to be killed and have his soul consumed by Voyager or to join him (as another Testament) and live forever. Sauer refused both fates and he chose to commit suicide.
The witnesses of events that led to his death were Melisse Ortus and Lactis. Two years after his suicide he was activated as the cyborg Ziggurat 8, and about 100 years later the events of Xenosaga: Episode I unfold.
Dialogue by Wilhelm suggests that Jan Sauer had a "shining will," and implicates that at some point Jan was considered to become a Testament. Given that Xenosaga: Pied Piper has not been released to the US, most of Jan Sauer's background and his relation to the Zohar remains a mystery in Episode I and Episode II. Perhaps the developers did not disclose his background so that it may be further revealed in Episode III, which has a US release date of Fall 2006.
In Episode I Ziggurat 8 is commissioned by the S.O.C.E. to infiltrate a U-TIC organization base and rescue M.O.M.O.. During their escape their spacecraft would have been destroyed by the U.M.N. column walls if not rescued by the Elsa, and so he meets with Shion and the rest of the Xenosaga cast.
When first called Ziggy by M.O.M.O., Ziggurat 8 seemed uncomfortable. He suddenly had a flashback of his lost son, Joaquin. He remembered that during his life as Jan Sauer he purchased a synthetic dog for his son, as on a police officer's salary could not afford a real dog. The company which manifactured the dog was Nexus (and the dog's model name was "Nexus 6" wink , which prompted his son to give the nickname Nex, a truncation of the company's name. His manufactured name was similarly truncated by M.O.M.O.. This may have been the action that sparked Ziggurat 8's response to take on a fatherly role toward M.O.M.O..
Ziggy seems self-conscious of his present body, and shows discomfort when young women see him undergoing maintenance. However he shows trust in M.O.M.O., as he states because of the "purity of her heart." In Cathedral Ship, when Cherenkov diffuses into the Zohar emulator and begins his transformation into a Gnosis, Ziggy remarks how it is "the same, just like that day." This is a reference to the events which happened in his past (or Xenosaga: Pied Piper) where Voyager transforms into the Black Testament, through the same method.
Ziggurat 8 seems to understand some of the events regarding the Zohar, however his general disposition is reserved, and the game does not reveal too much of what he could know of his previous life. In the KOS-MOS Encephalon, Ziggurat 8's past was not shown despite the fact it is stated KOS-MOS sensed everyone's memories, and Nephilim urged everyone to accept the entirety of their memory. chaos explains why his and Allen's memories are not in the encephalon--yet there is no mention of Ziggurat 8's memories not being there. It is unknown why his memories/fears were not explored in the Encephalon. It could be due to the game's development of Ziggy not being as major a character as Shion and Jr. (In Xenosaga I & II for the Nintendo DS, Ziggy reveals more of his past to the rest of the characters.)
His only assignment is to protect and support M.O.M.O., yet he accompanies the rest of the party as a support character. During the destruction of Proto Merkabah Ziggy helps rescue KOS-MOS after Shion's grip of her has slipped.
In Episode II Ziggy continues to protect M.O.M.O. beyond the scope of his assigned mission. He strongly encourages Juli Mizrahi to be maternal to M.O.M.O.. He may also have feelings towards M.O.M.O. similar to that of his lost son. This is suggested by the way he is affected both during and after M.O.M.O.'s analysis. When she collapses, a vivid memory is triggered of Voyager standing over a large pool of blood.
Ziggy relates to Albedo's immortality in Episode II when he says, "Death is rest for the soul. Who was it that said that? If the body did not die, and the fears borne in the mind just continued to pile up, the world would be nothing more than an eternal prison." When Juli Mizrahi performs maintenance on Ziggy, he reveals the reason why he committed suicide was because of the death of his son. They form a connection because of the loss of their children and the resulting painful memories. Despite Juli Mizrahi's sympathy for Ziggy, the cold reality of his state of life is shown when Ziggy is made the lead (on screen) character and he talks with other employees of the U.M.N. Control Center. A majority treat him as old property.
Within Labyrinthos, Ziggy was briefly focused in on when the information within Canaan was accessed. He became suddenly reserved and placed his hands behind his back. This could implicate he knows this Canaan might be in some way tied to the mysterious program "Canaan" mentioned by his Realian subordinate Lactis in the past (Xenosaga: Pied Piper). Given this, Ziggy should recognize Dimitri Yuriev and his intent as well. As to why Ziggurat 8 does not disclose to the party the familiar connections of these events is not yet known. He does however, inquire Jr. to explain what U-DO is before they dive into M.O.M.O.'s subconscious. (In Xenosaga I & II for the Nintendo DS, Ziggy reveals his past to the rest of the characters.)
He sacrifices his cybernetic arm by breaking through a wall for the party's escape from the Ω System. When he is being repaired, Juli Mizrahi asks him to consider lifespan extension. Eventually he accepts, primarily for M.O.M.O.'s sake but it is also likely that the reappearance of his family's murderer has prompted him to carry on his life. At the end of Episode II he is to be stationed at the Kukai Foundation and remain on call as a bodyguard for M.O.M.O..
[edit]MOMO
MOMO Mizrahi
MOMO Mizrahi as she appears in Xenosaga: Also sprach Zarathustra.
Game series Xenosaga
First game Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht
Voiced by (English) Sherry Lynn (Episode I),[14] Christina Puccelli (Episode II & III), Brittney Karbowski (anime)
Voiced by (Japanese) Rumi Shishido
MOMO Mizrahi is a character that plays a central part in the storyline of Xenosaga, especially during Episode II.[15] Her first name is a acronym for Multiple Observative Mimetic Organicus.
In the video game and anime, MOMO is a Realian, a class of artificial humans.[16]Specifically, she is a prototype 100-series Observational Realian developed through genetic engineering by Joachim Mizrahi to combat Gnosis, an alien that exist in a different plane of existence. She was created with the appearance and personality of a young girl[17] and does not show the signs of aging. Her primary motivation throughout the series is to fulfill the wishes of Joachim. She also seeks approval from Juli Mizrahi as something more than a replacement doll for her and her husband's deceased daughter, Sakura, with whom she was created in image. In addition she grows close to Ziggurat 8 "Ziggy" and Jr., both of whom lost someone dear to them as well.
Originally, MOMO was created by Joachim Mizrahi, a scientist,[17] to resurrect U-DO.} She was crafted in the likeness of his dead daughter, Sakura.[17] He went so far as to tell MOMO that if she did good deeds, one day she could become a real human girl; that she could actually become Sakura.
After the death of Joachim Nizrahi, MOMO was rescued from her birthplace admist the chaos of the Miltian Conflict and went to live on the planet Fifth Jerusalem, the hub of the Galaxy Federation, with Juli Mizrahi whom she termed "mother".[17]
In Episode I, MOMO's outfit closely resembles a Japanese schoolgirl's uniform. She takes the role in the series as a magical schoolgirl.[18]
MOMO was programmed with the behavior and emotions of a twelve-year-old girl, and considers both Joachim and Juli Mizrahi to be her parents. Aside from her pink hair and the yellow eyes, MOMO is an otherwise perfect physical copy of their deceased daughter, Sakura.
Aside from Juli Mizrahi, the two most important figures in MOMO's life are Ziggurat 8 "Ziggy", whom she nicknamed after he rescued her, and Jr..
MOMO's weapons start out as short magical rods in Episode I and later, in Episodes II & III, as an Ether-based composite bow. The rods can be used to physically attack or to shoot musical- or petal-themed laser beams giving her both short- and long-ranged attacks, however when she wields a bow, it makes all of her attacks long-range[19].
Among her Ether skills is the ability to transform into a more powerful version of herself by performing a transformation sequence. The costumes she wears determines the either-based abilities she has access to [20] for a limited amount of time.
In Episode III MOMO is specifically given a new abilities to immobilize enemies by filling up an enemy's "Break meter".[21]
[edit]Appearances
Juli Mizrahi and MOMO had a strained relationship[17] due to her close resemblance to Sakura. Although MOMO is a an organic being capable of thought and emotions, Juli finds MOMO to be just a reminder of her deceased daughter.[17] Juli is unable to see MOMO as anything more than an artificial human until MOMO's near death during Episode II whereupon she realized she did care about MOMO.
Near the beginning of Episode I, Ziggy is assigned by S.O.C.E, and particularly Juli, to rescue MOMO from the U-Tic Organization and protect her until her safe return.[22]
MOMO is central to the storyline because she contains the Y-Data.[23] This has made her the target of kidnappings --specifically attempted kidnappings by Albedo and U-TIC--[22] and manipulation her and her friends by U.M.N. to get the data for themselves.[24] Later, during a near-fatal Y-Data extraction, she tried to stop Albedo from extracting it by destroying her mind, but the action was futile as Albedo was able to obtain it after threatening Jr. After these events, MOMO asked permission of Juli to assist the investigation of Old Miltia.
Left at the dawn of a new era after the events at Michtam, MOMO began to work with everyone to rebuild the world, with the belief that a new network was one way to save the world. She believed the network would reunite those who had already departed.
[edit]chaos
chaos (ケイオス keiosu?) joined the Elsa Crew two years prior to the events of Episode I. He is described in the ODM as the one who ensures the safety of the crew during their travels. In that respect, it could be said that chaos is ship security, as he certainly serves that function. But he also serves in many other ship tasks, such as several in-flight functions and the moving of cargo. Essentially, he is a jack-of-all-trades.
chaos appears unaffected by physical aging, as is evidenced by the fact that he has the same physical appearance during the events that take place in the main story of Xenosaga, as well as during the time of the Miltian Conflict as a Veteran serving under the Galaxy Federation fourteen years prior and even appears in Pied Piper one-hundred years earlier.
In Episode II, Episode III, Pied Piper, and Xenosaga I&II, he is referred to as Yeshua, which is said to have been the Aramaic name for Jesus of Nazareth (Jesus' mothertongue was most likely Aramaic). It is also a shortened form of Yehoshua. The implications of chaos having some "divine" significance are scattered all throughout Xenosaga. The Anima Vessels, which are half of chaos, are also referred to as the "body of God." The database also calls chaos' power the "power of God."
It is speculated that chaos is in some way connected to Wilhelm, president of Vector Industries. Wilhelm is the only person who seems to truly know chaos, as well as recognize his significance in the greater scheme of things. In turn, chaos seems to be the only one who truly knows Wilhelm, as Wilhelm states in Episode III that chaos is the only one who can define him. It is also interesting to note the diametric opposition between the two characters, both physically and in terms of personality. Wilhelm has red eyes and pale skin, while chaos has green eyes and dark skin. Wilhelm is directly engaged in just about every aspect of the conflicts that take place within Xenosaga. On the other hand, chaos maintains a passive role, and seems content with following the path of the games' other protagonists.
Much of chaos' history is clouded, but it is known that 6,000 years ago, he was one of the disciples of a man that Ormus would come to worship as their Lord and Messiah. During this time, chaos was still known as Yeshua, and performed miracles in that man's place. Exactly what happened during this time period and why it happened, is unknown. However, there may be clues in Nephilim's mention of chaos teaching humanity long ago, and the reaction of Anima to the scriptures about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (The suggestion of chaos as Jesus, as well as a traditional Jesus figure, seem to be yet another of Xenosaga's Gnostic touches. In Gnosticism, Jesus is actually two separate beings, a divine aeon Jesus, and a human Jesus. One cannot assert for certain however that chaos would be an aspect of Jesus. The only direct depiction involving the two is of chaos standing next to Mary Magdaelene as the two listen to a sermon by Jesus. By this interpretation chaos may have been a prophet or disciple of Jesus. It is also possible that chaos may have been one of the many angels said to have accompanied Jesus.) Wilhelm and the database also state that chaos had died, at least physically, during this era, and had left behind the "Word of Yeshua", also known as Lemegeton.
Lemegeton is represented in the material world as words, but it is actually a wavelength energy. Lemegeton can only be understood and spoken by chaos (Anima), and when recited, they can access and control the Zohar. Through the Zohar, energy from the Higher Domain of U-DO can be accessed. Humans are unable to speak the "words", however the ancient people and future researchers such as Grimoire Verum were able to create programs from Lemegeton to control the Zohar. This was used in all Relics of God that made use of the Zohar's energy, such as Zarathustra and Omega. The Song of Nephilim is an incomplete translation of Lemegeton. People of the Zohar, whose wills resonate strongly with Anima due to their special bloodline, are also capable of controlling the Zohar, with the strongest among them capable of communicating with U-DO. In this way, the power of Anima is also seen as a proxy between humans and the power of the Higher Domain. (Only those who resonate purely with Anima are capable of controlling it, while those who resonate passively with Anima lead to dispersal.)
In Episode III it is revealed that chaos is the human incarnation of Anima, a power derived from the collective unconscious of humanity and present since the beginning of the universe in this dimension. Anima is a force that appears to be behind the theme of Will to Power and individuality. This is the antithesis to the convergence and unity theme behind the power of the Animus.
Long ago at the beginning of the universe, certain wills of humanity resonated purely with Anima. According to the database, these were past incarnations of consciousnesses that are capable of being Testament, which includes the player characters of the Xenosaga Series. These wills began a chain reaction throughout the collective consciousness, resulting in the dispersal of consciousnesses, a phenomenon that led the universe towards destruction. The dispersing wills that reject the collective consciousness are commonly called Gnosis when seen in the real world. Eventually, the increasing dispersal of the collective consciousness would lead the universe to collapse.
To counter this, Anima also possessed a failsafe function. When consciousnesses of rejection-- those that desire dispersal-- exceed critical mass, the imaginary number domain collapses, which causes the collapse of the real number domain and, as a result, leads to the collapse of the entire universe, swallowing up the upper domain. This is the universe's desperate, dangerous situation. When a breakdown or error is produced in one part of a system, the "failsafe" is the function that keeps the effect from spreading to the entire system. It is for the sake of ensuring safety. In other words, it is thought that the Failsafe is the system that keeps a problem produced in one section of the universe from spreading its ill-effects to all the world. If that's the case, then it is thought that the function of the universe's Failsafe is something for the sake of avoiding the collapse of the entire universe, including both upper and lower domains.
To save chaos' life, and to prevent the destruction, Mary used her power of Animus to seal away the power of Anima into the twelve Anima Vessels. Mary did this by separating chaos' soul in two, into the Anima power and the Will of Anima, which is the failsafe. Then the Anima power was divided into the twelve Anima Vessels. While separated from his Anima power, chaos' failsafe ability could not ignite.
However, as long as Anima existed, the consciousnesses of the universe would continue to disperse until the universe was slowly destroyed by collapse. Wilhelm chose Eternal Recurrence to avoid this. By using Zaruthustra he planned to perpetually rewind time to the past, living in an eternal cycle. This prevented both the collapse through dispersal and the destruction of wills by the failsafe. But this meant living the same lives over and over again.
At the end of Episode III, chaos rejected the Eternal Recurrence, deciding to trust in the wills of humanity to change the future. He realized his power might be used to save the universe with the help of human wills who wish for it. His final cryptic instructions to Shion and friends was to lead humankind back to Lost Jerusalem. He states that the key to saving the universe could be found on Lost Jerusalem, yet does not elaborate on what this means. Although chaos believes they will likely all meet again on Lost Jerusalem, given how long it would take to travel there, this may be hinting at future incarnations.
After the awakened KOS-MOS restored his power to him, chaos believed he would disappear with the release of his power to slow the destruction of the universe and allow humanity more time to find Lost Jerusalem. However, his consciousness lived on, as the consciousnesses of the universe still desired his existence. He still remains as the failsafe of the universe, although his future form is unknown.
After saving the Elsa by holding open one last U.M.N. gate to allow them to escape the shockwave of the dimensional shift, he is last heard speaking to KOS-MOS as she drifts through space. His last words: "I guess both you and I still exist in this world, after all. As long as people... as long as the universe desires it, we will continue to exist. We haven't finished what we have to do yet. So, until then, sleep well, KOS-MOS."
[edit]Gaignun Kukai, Jr. (Rubedo)
This section requires expansion.
[edit]Jin Uzuki
He is first introduced in Episode I in a videophone conversation with his sister, Shion. He is then seen in the ending credits, praying at the graves of his parents.
During the Miltian Conflict, Jin managed to steal information from Margulis concerning the true nature of the Miltian Conflict—the Y-Data. After joining chaos and Canaan in their search for the U.R.T.V.s, the group was stopped by Margulis, who challenged Jin to a duel. Margulis displayed superior skill with his sword, wounding Jin during the duel. When it came to Ether skills, however, Jin proved to be the better. Both duelists hurled a ball of potent energy at each other. Margulis' sphere of energy crashed into Jin, knocking the breath out of him and severely weakening him. Jin's, however, hit Margulis in the face, which left the man with a vicious gash over his right eye that would eventually leave a permanent scar.
While in the military, he was ranked directly under Margulis and was Pellegri's superior. Both Jin and Margulis trained under his grandfather, the swordmaster Ouga Uzuki. Ouga had also taught Shion martial arts abilities. Some of these martial art abilities, including a few sword fighting, may be seen in Episode II, if you decide to complete the certain GS quests to obtain a few of Jin/Shion Double Techs. Two examples are Phoenix Blade and Lion Heart.
After becoming aware of Margulis's treachery during the Miltian Conflict, Jin received information from his father Suou and began his own secret-information activities under then-Lieutenant General Helmer. His relationship with chaos also began during this period.
While he shared a deep connection with Pellegri during his time in the Federation military, they never walked the same path again, due to differences in their relative stations. It is a particularly sad conclusion considering that his mother Aoi, like Pellegri, had inherited the bloodline of the Immigrant Fleet, and the same blood clearly ran through Jin.
At the end of Episode III, Jin is mortally wounded by the Armaros Gnosis, being stabbed twice by its deadly blades, and dies beside the fallen E.S. Asher. Though he lost his life defending chaos and Nephilim within Zarathustra, his spirit—his consciousness—travels alongside Nephilim to Lost Jerusalem (Earth).
Jin's ether element appears to be ice in Episode II, but rather more directed to lightning in Episode III shown by the Special Attack "Dragon Dance," and he possesses superhuman strength and speed from his ether power, great enough even for him to slice an A.M.W.S. in half with a single stroke. Another interesting note is that using Jin as a co-pilot in Dinah or Asher allows both crafts to use extremely powerful moves. Whether this was intentional to provide a hint at his E.S. pilot future is unknown. His Ether closely resembles stereotypical portrayals of magical Chi warriors in other fictional works.
[edit]Canaan
Japanese Voice Actor: Hiroshi Kamiya
English Voice Actor: Beng Spies (Episode II), Steven Blum (Episode III)
Canaan (カナン Kanan?) is a special Realian created by Vector Industries. Like M.O.M.O., he can pilot an E.S., specifically E.S. Asher. He is not designed like the other Realians and is referred to as an "Enhanced Memory Model" by M.O.M.O. when they first meet in Helmer's office.
Canaan was sent on a mission during the Miltian Conflict by Lieutenant General Helmer along with chaos to retrieve the U.R.T.V.s and the Y-Data. During their mission the U-TIC Organization activates the Song of Nephilim. Canaan starts to become affected by it, but he fights off being overcome by it. Nearby, Federation Soldiers in A.M.W.S. are affected and start attacking Canaan and chaos. Jin Uzuki arrives in time and aids them. Shortly after, Jin shows them to the U.R.T.V.s location at Labyrinthos, headquarters of U-TIC. Margulis appears, and he and Jin fight. After the fight, Jin entrusts Canaan with information regarding the Miltian Conflict, which is also a fragment of the Y-Data. After uploading the data into Canaan, Jin leaves. Then something happens to Canaan (appearing as a strange black cloud in the sky which engulfs Canaan and causes him to pass out; chaos also sees this, but it is unknown if he was affected) and the information handed over to him becomes inaccessible to him. Some unknown time later, they continue their search for the variant U.R.T.V.s and find two of them: Rubedo (also known as Jr.), who is carrying out a wounded Nigredo (Gaignun Kukai). They rescue them both, but no other U.R.T.V.s. are reported being saved.
Fourteen years later Canaan is still unable to read the data that is locked inside his head. A side-effect of his mysterious affliction is occasional black-outs accompanied by data loss. He has spent much time during the years since the Miltian Conflict at Vector's 2nd Division on Second Milita attempting to extract the Y-data from his head. Repre
