I awoke to a rousing shouting match between what it felt like three people. I propped myself up on my elbows and lolled my head to the side to see what the heck was going on. I almost laughed at the sight, but held it in to see what they were fighting about. Jade was standing in front of Jasper and Aleyn giving them hell like I'd never seen someone give hell before. Little barely 5'2" Jade was striking pure fear into 5'10" Jasper, whose eyes were big as saucers and cast to the ground, and a mixture of fear and possibly lust? ew.. in the staggering 6'6" Aleyn. I caught snitches of what she was saying..
"YOU STUPID EFFING SONS OF A BITCHES!.... DIDN'T DESERVE.... RAVING IDIOTS!.... a*****e.... NEVER BETRAY...... LUSTY MONKEY WITH A SMALL p***s.......... SCUM OF THE EARTH....... I'LL RIP YOUR BALLS OFF........... STAY AWAY OR FEAR MY EFFING WRATH..... YOU TWO ******** IMBECILES!.... OH THATS RIGHT LITTLE---"
I started to laugh in spite of myself and Jade stopped mid sentence, her face changed into pure joy, and she bounded gracefully over to where I was laying and hugged me so tightly I felt my scab threatening to rip again. I gasped, "JADE! KILLING."
She released me with a pout, "p***y."
I gave her a look and then stood up shakily, "Where's Darius? I need to thank him." She laughed, "He's getting more herbs, your treatments not done yet little dancer with death."
I sighed and sunk back to the ground, laying my hand over my forehead. To my surprise, my head found solace in Jasper's lap. I looked up at him and then looked away closing my eyes and rolling to the side. His cool fingers traced along my jaw and I turned my head out of his grasp, whispering with pain in my voice, "You tried to kill me. You broke my heart in less than 5 seconds. I don't want to talk to you."
He got up silently with a breathed, "I understand."
Jade looked at him darkly as he walked away and I curled into a ball, clutching my chest, "It hurts." I blacked out, the pain in my back searing suddenly, overwhelming my senses and sending me down in a spiral of midnight blue darkness. A strong smack from Jade woke me up quickly and I rubbed my cheek fervently, reeling from the sting, "******** OW JADE!" She smirked, "At least you didn't die."
I grumbled and stood up quickly -- a little too quickly-- sending me tottering a few steps then walking a little off kilter away from her. My voice was weaker than my stance and I fumbled through my words, "I need to be left alone for a bit Jade, tell Darius I will be back soon." She was silent behind me and I felt a whisper of air hit my hand as she tried to take it, "Sakir.." I shook it off and kept walking, my resolve hardened stone like my soul had become in my chest. I sprinted off, watching all whip by and become steadily clearer and then blurry as I blocked everything out.
It was deathly quiet in the forest, and even more silent in my head. I couldn't even feel Cecily in my brain, the spark of presence that usually occupied my head was gone. I tried for a minute or two to get her back, but nothing happened. I began to wonder what happened, then began to sink back into numbness. My moods, as I thought back on them, fluctuated to frequently, and this one hardened mood suited my poor soul well. It was calm and couldn't be touched because of the iron encasing now around it. Even if an arrow pierced my chest I was confident it would bounce off my heart. And if it didn't. Oh well.
I didn't hear the footsteps in time to react, but I was peaceful, and if the footsteps meant harm I would let it come. The footsteps were keeping pace with me now, but I dared not look to the side, it might ruin this tranquil resolve. Cool fingertips ran through my hair and I slowed down, my strides smaller and smaller until I was walking quite slowly. They slowed down just as evenly and then took my hand, turning me to face them. I kept my eyes closed and my face serene, whatever they were going to throw at me, would come.
The most achingly beautiful sound flitted over my ears, so fleeting I began to think I had just dreamt it. But then it fluttered by once more. A small and delicate melody, hummed softly like a lazy bee laden with nectar. My eyes betrayed me as they opened slowly, revealing my captor....
