A Slice of Heaven
Daily things about me, if my profile isn't enough for my stalkers. I love you. What's with the title? I don't know, but I like it.
Chapter Five scene
Two days ago Max and Jake made it back to the apartment. It had been late, or early depending on what way your looking at it. Max has stumbled up the stone steps and, as he noticed when he woke up, developed bruises on his knees from stumbling. The only clumsy thing he hadn’t done going up the steps was fall backwards.
Which he might of but if he did nothing bad happened.
When Jake flopped onto his bed it was four in the morning, it took, it seemed to him, an hour to get out of his clothes and shoes and then stumbled into bed in his plaid boxers. Only to wake up an hour later to his cell phone ringing from his jeans on the floor. He groaned into his pillow and then dragged himself to the floor.
He flopped by his jeans and started to dig in the pockets till he found the phone. Out of habit he looked at the screen, he didn’t process what the letters meant but flipped open the phone anyways and groaned into it.
Grace on the other end, Max’s older sister, asked with her mousey voice,
“Jake.”
“Uh-huh”
He wasn’t sure if he could form actual words with his actual mouth. Maybe after a cup of coffee.
“Are you okay?”
“Uh-huh”
He decided the effort to make coffee was just too much at the moment.
“Macy had her baby.”
Something registered at the back of his head. Macy had her baby. Jake rubbed his hazel eyes and uh-huhed again. Who cared, really, if he couldn’t remember her she wasn’t important.
“ The baby, he , his name is Balto, he looks just like Max. Well kind of. The eyes I think will be brown.”
Something snapped into place behind the hazy veil. Max’s bay bay. And then it kind of fall away as he drew up an image of M as a bay, bay. And then he thought of coffee. If he had coffee, whole pot of coffee , he would care, as it was, he didn’t and didn’t really care much.
“Jake, are you still there?”
“Uh-huh”
With coffee he might actually be able to make real words. He mulled the subject for half a second and then decided, no. Screw coffee and screw Grace too.
“Jake, what are you doing?!”
The scream jerked him from that microsecond of a nap he had been having after his inner rant. He groaned at the phone and let his head fall onto his jeans. With the floors help he effectively closed the phone and discontinued the annoying voice that demanded things of him.
