You see her in the street.
In the car.
At school.
On her front porch.
Just that girl you see every day.
Nothing special.
Not ugly.
Not pretty.
You think nothing of her.
Just another face you never really seem to look at.
Sure, every now and then,
You ask her for a pencil or pen
Because she always has one.
She draws.
But you never return them.
She's another pointless face.
Just a weirdo.
But one day
As you're walking
You see her
As she's crying
Leaning againts the wall on the staircase
Clearly just to get out of class
And let it out.
You have two options.
Pretend you never saw her
And walk away.
Ignore it.
Forget it.
Or
Walk over to her
And reach out a hand
And say
"Hey."
Or
"You okay?"
"What's wrong?"
"What happened?"
And maybe she'll answer.
Maybe she'll tell you to leave.
Maybe she'll walk away, ignoring you.
Maybe she'll feel better
To know
Someone actually gives a s**t
And make her day
A tiny
Wee bit
Smidge
Better.
Even though she's clearly sad.
But hey,
Maybe
Just maybe
She'll wave at you
Just once
Maybe twice
And then never again
In the hallway.
Just say
"Hey."
Or
"Thanks."
You never know.
Takes about one minute.
One precious minute.
To change a person
And help that person
Into becoming happy.
A friend.
Better.
And less
Of "just a face"
And more of
A person.
