As a star fell through the sky.
A single beat was calling.
A single suffocating breath
Passed beyond my lips
And into the stars.
I sat alone
Staring at it.
Watching it die
As my heart slowed and stopped,
Acutely aware as the fire above
Burst into flames anew.
I watched it fall,
Fall through the sky.
Somewhere the light in my own eyes
Followed without a thought.
It left me lying in the dark,
