Lost in thought I'm lost. That's about it. I'll try to find my way back.

Let's begin the storytelling, shall we?
So, like all good stories, or at least most of them, this started off as a dream. Now, you might think that's kinda weird, but really, a lot of good and excellent writers use dreams as influence. Take Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Kubla Khan (here reprinted a short excerpt from the beginning)

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man

Down to a sunless sea.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round :
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree ;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

This was taken directly from a dream he had, and had he not been interrupted, more than the mere 44 lines that he did write down would there have been. And let's look at H. P. Lovecraft, or Neil Gaiman, or any of the great fantasy writers, they all took their ideas from dreams, or wild fancies.

Now that I've set myself up and self-justified my writing, I'll start setting down the ideas.

As I entered the dream, well, it's transformed from one to another, and back again. It was a long journey through the Dreaming for me, and I'd been roving all over it that night. Sleep was deep upon me and had been shaking loose ideas from my brain as a harvester would any good cherry tree. So I guess I should start out at the beginning, as much as I can remember and go on from there. That almost always works as an opening, so I'll give it a shot.

I was sitting in a car. Not as a person, but more as an unnoticed free floating entity. I could observe, but I couldn't interact, and yet, I was every person in that car. The driver, the passenger, the phantoms in the back seat. I knew this, and yet they didn't, and yet . . . it wasn't a conscious thing. They weren't exactly human either. The driver and his wife were as far as I could tell, some breed of canine anthromorphs. Reminiscent of bloodhounds or maybe beagles. The conversation was about their children and the schooling they were having, as well as about the neighbors, and other such domestic things. Of course, the fact that these dogs were talking to each other didn't bother me in the least, I'm used to it. I've always dreamt odd things, and this wasn't any stranger than all the other dreams I've had.

The backdrop of all this was some rather familiar looking hills with some wooded areas, but for the most part, standard rural New Jersey. Somehow I got the feeling that it was closer to NJ than anywhere else. Of course, I live in PA, and have been through NJ before, but it's not someplace that I spend a lot of time, so that kinda struck me as wonky. Then again, I always had this thing for looming mountains covered in darkly leaved trees, so that's to be expected.

Anyway, eventually the couple reaches their house and they start talking about their neighbors, and how they just got married and have a kid already, and I look next door as they're moving their groceries into the house, and I see who the neighbors are. It's me, and my girlfriend, Jill. We're not in human form, but rather feline anthromorphic form. Again, this doesn't surprise me, as that's simply how my mind works. Besides, I've been envisioning myself as a furry for years now, and Jill doesn't mind it, in fact she enjoys it as a change of pace, so I'll just let that go.

We're talking outside the house, doing stuff around and that's where this part of the dream falls apart, not shattering, or even falling apart, but simply disappearing to be replaced by something else entirely.

And that's where I'm going to leave it for now, until I come up with a decent way to relay the next portion of the dream. So tune in next time for the next installment.
