The sound of little feet could be heard walking down the hallway of the apartment, it was the middle of the night and the only resident of the house that was up was the now two year old Rin. She had, had had a nightmare and climbed out of her bed and walked out of her room with her little bunny plushie dragging behind her. She walked to her parents room which was a little ways down from her room and used her bunny to turn the knob and push the door open. She made a small noise and hugged her bunny close to her.
Shuichi rolled over in the bed he and Yuki shared, his eyes fluttered open when he heard a little noise. Sitting up he looked at the open door and blinked some. Once his vision cleared he looked at his daughter in her little pink feetie PJs. He rubbed his eyes and turned the nightstand lamp on, Yuki rolled over and put his hand over his eyes. "Darn it Shuichi its ten at night what's with the light?" He asked iritated.
Shuichi pointed to rin. "Rin's awake." He said and looked at the little girl that had streaks of pink hair growing in.
Yuki looked at the door and blinked some. "Hey there baby girl what's the matter?" He asked, knowing he wouldn't get an answer back.
Diaster had struck for the small family back when Rin was one. Yuki had noticed something wrong with the small child. He knew back then most children sometimes took longer to talk then others but, Rin was a different story, instead of speaking words she made small sounds and squeaks and squeals when she was happy and other noises when she wanted something or showed some other type of emotion. Worried for his and Shuichi's child he called the doctor and took Rin to the hospital, the news Yuki had received had almost crushed him.
"Yuki you may want to sit down, I advise against standing for what i'm about to tell you." The doctor had said.
Yuki looked up at the doctor and picked Rin up and held her in his lap while the small child cuddled her bunny. "What's wrong with my baby girl?" Yuki asked finding a comfortable position in the seat.
"Yuki...this isn't easy for me to say this and I really don't want to tell you this. But I'm afraid Rin is mute, and will be for the rest of her life, she has a rare condition that doesn't allow her vocal cord to work beyond just normal sounds that people may make." The doctor said and looked up at Yuki.
Yuki's eyes were shadowed and he hugged Rin closer to him. His eyes began to water and soon silver tears fell from his eyes. "Rin...my baby girl...so she won't be able to speak at all?" He asked.
The doctor nodded and went over and pat Yuki on the back.
Rin made another noise and went to her parents bed and climbed in it and cuddled next to Yuki. She curled up and held her bunny close to her. Yuki looked down at her and wrappeed his arms around her and lay back down with Shuichi.
"Its alright baby girl, its ok." He said and closed his eyes holding Rin close to him as Shuichi turned off the light and the three slept together. Rin kicked her feet some and Yuki shifted a bit. "Don't kick your feet Rin." He said gently and fell asleep.
