Westering forborne
This is for the dried orange peels in my life.
I dreamed of her last night. She held bracelets of snakes swallowing themselves. Their patterns were so rich and full of hope that I had to look away. It was not something I could stand.

We were in a strange tower that overlooked a graying land. The wind was blowing hard and cold. It bent the stiff curtains, making a sound that slanted along the walls. Her long hair had a diaphanous quality in the moving spaces of light. We did not speak but this quiet aubade rose from the gestures of our hands.

I woke up.

I saw nothing but starlight edging on the windowpane.

Later, I recalled the stark cityscapes of home.

There's something so...stark...about this. The hope you couldn't handle and the sounds and spaces. You're lucky to be able to put some of it into words.

How pretty and sad. You're very good with words.

Who wrote that short story 'Winter Dreams'? I think it was Fitzgerald.
Anyways, my point being is that this one line here:

"Their patterns were so rich and full of hope that I had to look away. It was not something I could stand."

Reminded me of his story, and in a way linked both you and the narrative character in the story together.
Which causes me to be more sympathetic than envious, I guess.

(Though not by much, as the other comments obviously point out- your way with words ROCKS. ;3)
