The First Vampire Cat
Chapter 7
"Good, We leave in an hour." Max said, shutting the door behind him. I remained sitting on the bed looking at the door for about ten minutes. My heart was still pounding and I didn't know how to think straight. I staggered to my feet and found my way outside. Once again, I saw Vex sitting alone on the swingset. I walked over, but I still felt myself blushing from when he kissed me.
"Vex?" I whispered. He looked up at me. HIs reddish-brown eyes weren't sad anymore.
"Hey Aya. Feeling better?" he asked dully.
"Yeah, listen. I agreed with Max to let you come with us."
He brightened up.
"Really?! I can come with you?!" he smiled.
"Yes. Max told me to let you come." I said. He frowned again.
"Oh, Max told you?" He looked at his feet. There was a long, uncomfortable silence.
"So, uh, what happened to you anyway? Who attacked you?" he asked without looking up at me. The thought of being carried in Vex's arms made me blush.
"His name was Wesley. He's a werewolf. He's after Max."
"Then why'd he attack you?!" There was anger and confusment in his voice.
"I revived Max, so he's also after me as well. I'm in charge of Max's safety and he's in charge of protecting me." I said.
"Well, It may be Max's 'job' to protect you, but don't forget I'm comeing to protect you because I care about you."
"Yes. I know Vex." I whispered. He stood up.
"Let's go pack up then."
I smiled at him unevenly. He looked into my eyes and put his hand on my shoulder.
"Don't worry Aya. Nothing's going to happen to me. It's you, you should be worrying about. Don't worry about me." Vex said seriously.
I frowned.
"Alright. I'll be in shortly."
"Oh no you don't! I'm not going in until I know you're not running away from some crazy werewolf! You go in first or I'm never speaking to you again." Vex said pushing me towards the door. I smiled. Vex could be such a child sometimes.
----
As I packed up my stuff, Haine entered my room.
"Got all of your things?" she asked.
"Yup!" I smiled, then I noticed Haine and I were alone.
"Hey Haine, can I ask you a question?"
"Certainly Aya dear."
"Okay,....... If Max is alive again, why isn't he king? You told me he's the rightful king."
"He is the king, or he is supposed to be the king. But Maximillion doesn't want to be. Jake and I became king and queen because Max told us to. We already asked him if he wanted to take his place on the throne. He declined the offer. He told us we were doing too good, and if he was proclaimed king, Wesley could find him easier."
I nodded in comprehension.
"I understand."
"Plus, I couldn't imagine Maximillion ruleing over this land! He's so carefree and childish at times!" Haine laughed. I laughed as well.
Haine's hazel eyes looked into my brown eyes.
"Are you ready?" she asked.
I reluctantly nodded. I followed Haine outside. Vex and Max were waiting already.
"Good luck Aya, Max. I hope you find somewhere safe then come back to us." Haine said. Max frowned.
"I won't leave this world again without a fight. I can promise you that." Max said.
I could tell there was a hint of pain in his eyes, that quikly vanished when he saw me looking at him.
"Vex. You better keep in contact with me so I know you're alright!" Haine siad feircly.
"Yes mom. I will. I love you." Vex hugged Haine.
"I love you too. Be careful my son." she whispered kissing him on the head.
Jake was by her side. I looked up at Max.
"Shall we go?" He smiled. I smirked. Side-by-side with Vex and Max, we began our journey. I didn't know this yet, but this journey would be my most life-threatening, heart-pounding adventure of my entire life.
