Hey and hello again! I've got an interesting story!
First of all, I'm finished with all my mid terms! *insert applause here* So, tonight there's going to be a party at the house of a friend of mine, and yesterday I decided to bake cupcakes for it!
So, what do I do?
I look in the basement in certain cupboards for a box of cake mix. (Yes, we do keep some non-perishable items in my basement) The box was covered in dust and it was a few years old, but it seemed fine!
I baked the cupcakes with it, but you know how it turned out?
Dusty!!! Hooray!!!
I never knew that cake mix had an expiration date! Hahahaha!!!
So, I wasted three eggs and half a bag of chocolate chips on a batch of bad cupcakes.
Ah, well. My mom went out and bought more cake mix, and I made some decent ones this time.
Next story: Bad english dubbing!
Now, don't you anime fans hate it when you watch subbed japanese anime on the internet, figure out that they've released it in the US, and watch the dubbed version, and the voices suck?
It's happened to me multiple times, but I'll just give my most recent example.
CardCaptor Sakura!
I had seen the anime of Tsubasa Chronicle (with subs) and decided to check out CCS because it had pretty much the same characters, but Tsubasa is a crossover series. So, I watched a bit of CCS and became hooked. I'm currently watching episode 60 at the moment.
But then I thought, "Huh. The dub version of Tsubasa wasn't that horrible. I wonder how the english version of CCS is gonna be?"
I had read some spoilers that said that some names were changed, but I was all, "Meh, whatever. There isn't much of a difference between Toya and Tori... though Tori's a girl's name...." So, I watched the first quarter of episode 59 in english.
Sakura and Tomoyo, two ten/eleven year olds, were the first ones to speak. They sounded like sixteen year old snobby rich girls, who happened to be saying pretty much the same diologue as the Japanese version of the episode.
Li's voice was decent enough, but I choked on my own saliva when I heard Eriol's name changed to Eli. His voice wasn't all that bad either, but Eli just doesn't fit his character.
And then it came to Yukito. He's probably my favorite character of the show.
Drake: *coughGlassesFetishcough*
*glare*
Anyway, his voice wasn't THAT bad, I have to admit. but then when I heard Toya calling him "Julian", I just paused the video to laugh and cough up my fangirl gland.
I went from this: ^______________^
to this: -.-"
I didn't even stop to evaluate "Tori"'s voice. I was still distracted by Yukito becoming Julian.
The name just didn't fit! I mean, no offense to anyone with the name Julian; I have nothing against the name. I just have something against people who Americanize anime to the extreme! I mean, in the dubbed version of Fruits Basket, everone kept their own names. In Tsubasa Chronicle, everyone keeps their own names (so far.... at least they didn't change Kurogane to Steve or anything)
But then again, CardCaptor Sakura is a fairly old series, so changing the Japanese names might have just recently gone out of style. I dunno....
But having a ten year old little girl sound like a 16-year-old slut is just a big fat NO!!
*ventventvent*
*sigh*
So, yeah. I'm going back to watching CCS with subs again... because only the Japanese know how to make good "authentic" anime.
