I recently read a story about a Jehovah witness couple that had a set of 5 babies who needed the treatment that goes against their beliefs.
Well, two babies died, so the government seized the other three to make sure they got the proper treatment so they'd live. There were two blood transfusions done.
The father said "'[The mother] and I could not bear to be at the hospital when they were violating our little girl" Indicating that the blood transfusions were a terrible violation.
"The parents will be back in court later in February where they will argue against future seizures, and, according to their lawyer, demand an apology for what they call the province's outrageous and illegal handling of their case."
However, in Canada there are certain standards and laws that have to be met when raising children. Children's Aid Society states that:
"Neglect occurs when a caregiver fails to provide basic needs such as adequate food, sleep, safety, supervision, clothing or medical treatment. "
They FAILED to meet the requirements of parenthood so the children were rightfully taken anyways. That's the way the law works.
Any other person who has a baby that dies goes through long investigations to prove whether or not there was foul play on their part, whether they didn't do something right ,or at all.
Now I don't think Jehovah Witnesses are bad people, but to let your own children die because of your beliefs that they might not even want when they're older anyways? Please explain this to me. If I'm not mistaken, Witnesses do not believe in abortion, but yet they believe it's alright to sacrifice their child's life for a religion the child could have grown up to think is BS anyways? (Children stray, it's a fact of life).

Jesus handed down a law to us to abstain from blood. This means we're not to eat any meat that is not cooked fully, or any animal that has been strangled (in other words, the blood has to be drained from the animal).
Part of the care given to a patient is to see that a patient is taken care of physically, as well as mentally. If the patient has religions beliefs that go against what their faith says, there is an added burden of pressure that can harm the patients recovery.
Jehovah's Witnesses are not the only ones who are turning away the use of blood in surgery these days. As the concern over the safetly of blood rises there are many doctors who perform bloodless surgery because it gives them the chance to broaden their surgical skills.
There are also horrible cases where Witnesses have denied the use of blood and the courts went ahead and forced the blood on them, only to have the person aquire HIV, Hepatitis, Toxic Plasmosis and other equally dangerous blood diseases.
It should be noted that Jehovah's Witnesses will accept any other nonblood treatments when faced with a health that requires blood. I recently had to have surgery and my doctor was aware of my religion and he respected my request for no blood completely.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in faithhealing nor do we seek them out. Any time we get sick we look for a doctor because we know how important it is to get prompt medical attention. But the onyl area where we wil not budge is when the doctors advice us that we need blood.
In this area, Jehovah God's requirements of us to abstain from blood, comes first.

I remember hearing so much about this story last year. Actually, today is the the day the sextuplets were born.
There's a reason why it's hard to convert out of that religion and that is the church and the community will openly shun you. If those children were given the blood transfusion by the consent of their parents, they would all be shunned by the church, the community, and also ALL THE FAMILY THAT'S IN THE CHURCH. That's, and the quote in the Bible (which I was referencing to for a project), they use to defend their practice is the reason they would be afraid.
The quote, for anyone wishing to know is:
Leviticus 18:23: " 'Do not have relations with an animal and defile yourself with it.”
Oh dear me, IT'S DAMNED LEVITICUS, the same book that tells you to stone people and ward off homosexuality. And the original quote is really aginst bestiality because it has the word sexual before the relations.

Thats not true.
It's one thing to choose for youself what will happen to your life, yes. But nobody has the right to make a religious decision for a BABY or CHILD who may not want to be a part of their religion in the future, and cannot make the decision for themselves. They didn't get to make their own choice thus taking away from the child's own religious freedom. Sacrificing your child on your own beliefs isn't right.
I guess the same could be said for abortion as well?
Yes. I agree with your abortion statement.
But that a whole different can of worms that I'm trying to avoid. I don't want this thread to break out into an abortion debate.
What this boils down to is faith and belief in that faith.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not question the existence of God. They're not in any doubt as to God's authority and that one day he will bring justice to the world.
We do not give up our beliefs because the courts tell us we have to. We do not as one doctor put it..."Well, can't you ust ignore your faith for one day for the treatment, then go back to serving your God tomorrow?" Said to my uncle who refused blood...and is still alive and in good health today.
Faith is not something one stands by when the time is favorable. Faith is something one stands by regardless of what faces them.
