Written while listening to The Escapist--Nightwish

Alex floated above his bed, as he tended to do when he was deep in thought for no apparent reason. No apparent reason relating to the floating, not the thinking. Not that everything he did wasn't without reason. This more so than other times.

He played the words over that--what was his name again? Goober-nuk? Booger? Boogie-kun!--had said to him. Uri had saved him. Made his heart lighter. Alex turned his hand over in front of his face lazily, one side, the other, the music playing in the background buzzing in his ears.

"This is who I am! Escapist! Paradise seeker!" He mouthed the words, only to turn himself over and fall face first onto the pillow below. "Ow..." Footsteps sounded outside the door. He froze, glanced at his clock. Five till one...in the morning.

He slammed the laptop shut, leaping across the room from the chair onto his fouton-bed. He knew treating his system so roughly would probably send it into shock, but that was better than himself being in shock. s**t, the lights! s**t! He threw himself down under the covers, squeezing his eyes shut, trying to feign sleep.

The door opened slowly. He watched the shadow appear on the far wall, a handsome silhouette against the pale sunflower-yellow of the wall. The light snapped off, the form enlarged by the light cast from the hallway. He swallowed, made a show of breathing, tried to calm himself.

A soft chuckle rose from the man seating himself on the bed beside him. Leaning over him. Felt the brush of lips against his cheek. He couldn't help smiling. Another almost silent laugh and the hair that'd been thrown into his face by his haphazard fall was brushed aside. "Good night, little one." Another kiss. The door pushed open.

Later, he knew, Uri would come back. He smiled, anticipating the warmth as his irregular heartbeat stirred his blood. He would come back. His eyes closed slowly, in time to catch the last of the lights shutting off. Feel himself pulled into a safe embrace.

Guess moms aren't the only ones who remember you're afraid of the dark.

Cool. How was he floating? And if she's not his mom, who's the person who kissed him? I really like how even tho it's in third person, it feels like first. Good job.
